OUR DISTRICT PASTOR | Appreciation-Definition: "The recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something."
Over the last few months I have dealt with many of our churches that do not have a pastor. These churches are in transition with pastoral leadership. Some of them have been without a pastor for a short time and others for an extended period of time. I was surprised to see that in the little time that I've been on East Ohio, I've conducted over 30 church board meetings! That's almost 3 years worth of meetings in the last 3 months! I've tried to do a lot of listening and learning rather than talking. As I've listened to people talk about their churches and pastors, it's been a very eye-opening experience in a good way. Let me share a few things I've learned:
* People love their pastor. There is a unique bond between a congregation and a church that is part affection, part admiration, part respect, and part family.
* People don't want to be driven like cattle, they want to be led like sheep.
* People love to have pastors "step on their toes." But people are discouraged when they feel "beat up." Great pastors know the difference and how to share the tough truths.
* People are proud of their pastor. I love it when I meet people and they brag on their pastor.
* Pastors, your people love you more than you realize. Congregations, make sure you communicate your love to your pastor often. Don't worry, they won't get "the big head." There is enough going on in life to keep pastors humble.
* Congregations realize that a good pastor doesn't just make a church better, they make life better. When they know that a pastor believes in them, loves them, cares about them, desires God's best for them, people find life easier to manage.
My appreciation for pastors has multiplied over the last few months as I have seen over and over the difference they make. Pastors, you are loved and you make a difference. Never forget that!
Let me take a moment and update you on some news concerning some of our pastors and churches.
--The New Beginning is in pastoral transition. A couple of weeks ago, the supply pastor prayed with a person before church even began to accept Christ as Savior!
--Rev. Bob Sylvies was voted unanimously by the congregation to become the new pastor at East Liverpool First. Exciting things are happening on the river!
--I visited Canal Fulton on a Sunday evening to see what's happening with their youth group. Pastor Dan Skinner pointed out a middle-aged couple who has been coming to the group. They were in need of a washer and dryer and the church helped them out. They haven't come on Sunday morning, but Sunday evening has been their time of worship and discovery. Good job reaching out Canal Fulton!
--Pastor John Stallings has resigned at Massillon First to begin a ReStart at Shepherd's Hill Church in Louisville. He will begin on November 22. Pastor John led Massillon from an attendance of about 12 to around 80. Shepherd's Hill better watch out 'cause Pastor John is kicking it in high gear!
--Pastor Jan Winnale (Columbiana) led a young lady to Christ at the hospital. She didn't have a church or pastor. Pastor Jan had formed a friendship with her and her family and in this time of need she reached out.
--We have several other churches and situations that are moving forward in the process of calling a new pastor. Those 30 board meetings haven't resulted in nothing! As situations are finalized I'll keep you in the loop.
One last random thought that goes along with this is that while several of our churches are in transition with pastoral leadership, the moving of the Holy Spirit has not been on hold. The pause button has not been pressed because a pastor isn't in position. I'm encouraged to see the spirit, progress and enthusiasm in churches.
Pastors, you are appreciated! Dave Lutz

EAST OHIO DISTRICT TEAM MEETING
November 12, 2015 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
The New Beginning Church of the Nazarene
"DONUTS, DEVOTIONS, AND DAVE"
Hey Pastors! We are going to do something a little different for Team Day. Since nearly every Sunday I have been at churches that are in pastoral transition, I haven't had a chance to meet many of you. So, our Team Day is going to be a time of friendship, hanging out and a short devotion and worship time.
It's important to be connected as friends and this time is an opportunity to make friends and connect with current ones. We will have donuts and coffee as you arrive. We will do a short worship and devotion later in the morning. But the agenda of the morning is friendship.
My hope is that this will be the most encouraging morning of your week! I look forward to meeting many of you that I haven't met, and can't wait to see others I've already made friends with!
Meet at 8:30 a.m. at The New Beginning Church of the Nazarene for coffee and donuts, then gather in the sanctuary for fellowship and worship time. Lunch will not be provided. All pastors and pastoral staff are encouraged to attend. The New Beginning Church of the Nazarene 5640 Portage St. NW, North Canton (330-494-2375) |

East Ohio District Work & Witness
Founder's Club Offering - October 2015
Please join the East Ohio Work & Witness adventure. Over the last forty plus years the East Ohio District has participated in projects around the world. The teams have taken part in everything from construction to evangelism and Jesus Film showings.
October is one of the callings for Founders Club.
The Work and Witness Projects have a recommended cost of around $10,000.00 per team. These funds are used for materials that the team will need upon arrival. These funds are gathered through the Founder's Club. This is one way you can help support the East Ohio Work and Witness without ever leaving your home.
Each church is asked for their members to be sponsors of the Founders Club. Twice a year, in October and May, Founder's Club members contribute five dollars ($5.00) to this important ministry. Please encourage everyone to join Founder's Club and share in the blessing of this important ministry.
This April 1-12, 2016 the East Ohio District Work & Witness will be sending a team of 20 to do a Project in Asuncion, Paraguay. We will be working with missionaries Barry and Charlie Carney. It is very important that we have the funds raised and available to make this trip happen. Again we encourage your Children, Youth and Adults to get involved.
Please pray for the project, team members and the ones we will serve at Asuncion, Paraguay as we reach out to others around the world in Jesus name.

CHURCH PLANTING BASIC TRAINING |
Church Planting Essentials (CPE) is a three-day church planting "basic training." The materials were created by Dynamic Church Planting International (DCPI), based upon years of working in mission areas where the church is expanding rapidly. Churches Planting Churches (CPC) is a three-day church sponsorship 101. Certified Trainer Training (CT) equips and certifies participants to re-teach the materials in their local context. It is provided at no extra cost and requires attendance at a session the day before one's other chosen track and the day after (see schedule below). Please note that lay people are encouraged and welcome to participate. Why this training and not something else?- It's Simple: Basic principles to apply to a variety of church plant models in many contexts
- It's Reproducible: Geared toward creating churches that will multiply
- It's Re-Teachable: Contains sessions that certify attendees to reteach the material
- It's Low-Cost: The cost (noted below) covers your registration fee and some meals. Travel, lodging, and any remaining expenses would be on your own.
Where will it be held and how much will it cost? Wadsworth Church of the Nazarene - 734 High Street - Wadsworth, OH 44281 - Your $39 cost covers your registration fee and three lunches (Tuesday - Thursday).
