  OUR DISTRICT PASTOR

Appreciation-Definition: "The recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something."

October is Pastor Appreciation Month. It's a time when we have the opportunity to say "Thank You" to people who make a difference in our lives. Pastors love us. They teach us. They laugh with us in good times and cry with us during difficulties. Pastors wear many different hats and do many different jobs. But more than anything else, Pastors love us and desire us to love Jesus.

I encourage you and your church to find a way to show appreciation to your pastor. Last Sunday I was leaving a church where I had a meeting. The church had given the pastor some gifts. As the couple carried them to their van, you should have seen the smiles on their faces as they said, "Our church is so wonderful! They do Pastor's Appreciation so well and we feel so loved." I smiled as well as I thought about how much joy it brought this couple to know the people they love day in and day out appreciate their ministry.

Let me share an idea with you about how you can appreciate your pastor. Take a few moments and think back over the last year. What ways did your pastor encourage you or make a difference in your life? Is there a time they brought you comfort? Did something from a sermon help you in some way? Do you appreciate their attitude or the hope they bring? Look again at the definition above and what qualities about your pastor should you recognize?

On the last day of our ministry in Napoleon, we were given a basket of cards. Most of them had stories written inside them of times we had encouraged and loved people. What was very meaningful to me was seeing that people didn't take small times of ministry for granted. What I mean is that often pastors listen, pray and counsel and you wonder if it makes any difference. When people wrote about some of those small times and how much it meant to them, it brought tears to my eyes. People wrote about the attention I gave their kids, times after church when we prayed together, or when we talked at Wal-Mart about some family situations. In the moment they seemed like small insignificant times. But when people feel cared for, there are no insignificant times.

Write a letter, send an email, give a card, but share with your pastor some way they have touched your heart and soul this past year. I promise you it will be like water on a thirsty plant when they hear their ministry is making a difference.

Appreciating Pastors,
Dave Lutz

East Ohio District Work & Witness

Founder's Club Offering - October 2015

Please join the East Ohio Work & Witness adventure. Over the last forty plus years the East Ohio District has participated in projects around the world. The teams have taken part in everything from construction to evangelism and Jesus Film showings.

October is one of the callings for Founders Club.
The Work and Witness Projects have a recommended cost of around $10,000.00 per team. These funds are used for materials that the team will need upon arrival. These funds are gathered through the Founder's Club. This is one way you can help support the East Ohio Work and Witness without ever leaving your home.

Each church is asked for their members to be sponsors of the Founders Club. Twice a year, in October and May, Founder's Club members contribute five dollars ($5.00) to this important ministry. Please encourage everyone to join Founder's Club and share in the blessing of this important ministry.

This April 1-12, 2016 the East Ohio District Work & Witness will be sending a team of 20 to do a Project in Asuncion, Paraguay. We will be working with missionaries Barry and Charlie Carney.  It is very important that we have the funds raised and available to make this trip happen. Again we encourage your Children, Youth and Adults to get involved.
Please pray for the project, team members and the ones we will serve at Asuncion, Paraguay as we reach out to others around the world in Jesus name.

Kenmore Community

Members of Kenmore Community are collecting sports equipment new or used to take with us to donate to schools, communities, and individual children when we return to Nicaragua! The multi-church group that went in 2014 took "tons" of basketballs, soccer balls, jerseys, etc. and we're looking to take even more when we return in July 2016.  Please share this need and pray for God to bless this effort in a mighty way so we can share God's Love with the children of Nicaragua through sports!

We also have space on the trip. If you would like more information on being a team member please contact trip coordinator Harley Weidlich at 330-608-6570  with any questions or concerns .....Thank You and God Bless!

 CHURCH PLANTING BASIC TRAINING

Church Planting Essentials (CPE) is a three-day church planting "basic training."

The materials were created by Dynamic Church Planting International (DCPI), based upon years of working in mission areas where the church is expanding rapidly. Churches Planting Churches (CPC) is a three-day church sponsorship 101.  Certified Trainer Training (CT) equips and certifies participants to re-teach the materials in their local context. It is provided at no extra cost and requires attendance at a session the day before one's other chosen track and the day after (see schedule below).  Please note that lay people are encouraged and welcome to participate.

Why this training and not something else?
  • It's Simple: Basic principles to apply to a variety of church plant models in many contexts
  • It's Reproducible: Geared toward creating churches that will multiply
  • It's Re-Teachable: Contains sessions that certify attendees to reteach the material
  • It's Low-Cost: The cost (noted below) covers your registration fee and some meals. Travel, lodging, and any remaining expenses would be on your own.
Where will it be held and how much will it cost?
Wadsworth Church of the Nazarene - 734 High Street - Wadsworth, OH 44281 - Your $39 cost covers your registration fee and three lunches (Tuesday - Thursday). Lodging is recommended at the following hotels: Holiday Inn - 231 Park Center Dr. - Wadsworth, OH 44281 - (330) 334-7666 OR Comfort Inn - 5 Park Center Dr.- Wadsworth, OH 44281 - (330) 336-7692 Breakfast is included at both hotels. Travel & other expenses are on your own.
