  OUR DISTRICT PASTOR

Thank you. Thank you for the prayers that you have lifted to our Lord on my behalf. It seems like a day doesn't go by that someone doesn't tell me, "I'm praying for you." And I believe them. I know that often people use that comment as a way of wishing a person well, but I've seen the sincerity in many people's eyes as they have said this. And believe me, prayer makes a difference!

Let me share with you a Bible story that you might remember from Sunday School. It comes from 2 Kings 6. Israel and Aram were at war. Israel always won because God revealed the battle plans of Aram to Elisha. When the King of Aram found out that it was Elisha's insight that was causing their continued defeat, he decided they needed to do something about Elisha. The King and his soldiers surrounded Elisha and his servant and were going to kill them. Elisha was sleeping but his servant woke up and saw that they were surrounded by the enemy. "What shall we do?" the servant asked Elisha.

Have you ever asked that question, "What shall we do?" Have you ever felt surrounded by doubt, discouragement, confusion, fatigue? Have you ever turned around in a circle and thought, "I don't see any way out?" I know there are times we ask that question, "What shall we do?" and the only answer we can imagine is, "Give up." If you haven't felt that way in the past or feel that way now, I have some news for you...at some time you will!

Elisha calmly replied to his servant, "Don't be afraid. Those who are with us are more than those who are with them." This probably seemed odd because the servant saw two people on his side and armies on the other side. In what kind of math is two greater than armies? Then Elisha said, "Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see." When God answered that prayer the servant saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire that were all around them.   The resources and battalions of God are greater than the challenges and discouragements you face!

Your prayers have made that kind of difference in my life. There have been some situations I've faced that I felt like Elisha's servant. I've turned around in a circle and thought, "I don't see a path to victory." But then it's like things turn into 4-D and God reveals another layer of reality and His plans and power are revealed. In the last few months I have personally experienced the power and presence of God in ways I never have before. God has given me courage. He has given me insight into difficult situations. He has given me wisdom. He has guided me and protected me. He has strengthened me physically. He has spoken encouragement and hope into my soul and mind. Why have I experienced these things more now than ever before? I believe the difference is one thing--I have more people praying for me now than I have ever had in my life.

Prayer makes a difference!

Pastors, if you find yourself asking that question, "What shall we do?" and don't know where to turn, maybe it's time to call your church to prayer for you as a leader. If you are a layperson, I encourage you to do more than just say, "I'm praying for you," and actually pray for your pastor and church leaders! Pray until you can see the hills filled with the horses and chariots of fire. It's made a difference in my life and I believe it will make a difference for us all.

Praying for YOU!

Alabaster Offering - September 2015

History of Alabaster

In 1948, Rev. Elizabeth Vennum, Global Council member, was asked to think and pray about a challenging project for NMI. Rev. Vennum knew if God wanted the project to take place, He would provide the plan. On the return trip from Kansas City, God gave her His plan of giving "love" gifts. It was modeled after the sacrifice of the woman who anointed Jesus' head with expensive perfume poured from an alabaster jar (Matthew 26:6-13).

At the Global NMI Council meeting in 1949, Mrs. Vennum told of the Alabaster plan God had given her. The Council unanimously adopted the plan, and the first offering was received in 1949.

The Board of General Superintendents approved the plan for Alabaster funds to be used exclusively for buildings and properties in cross-cultural ministries.

Now, more than 60 years later, Alabaster is still strong, having provided more than 9,000 projects since 1949. Faithful Nazarenes around the world have given over $100 million dollars for this much-needed ministry.

Alabaster offerings builds:  Churches, Schools, Medical Facilities and Homes of those around our World!
