 OUR DISTRICT PASTOR

Dear EOD Family,

A friend told me about something they began doing in their worship service that changed the culture of their church. It didn't cost any money, it didn't take any volunteers and it didn't involve technology. All it took was a basket, some index cards and pens. Oh, and prayer. Lots of prayer! During the worship time, they created time and space that people could come forward and write their prayer requests on index cards and place them in a basket at the front of the church. It was kind of like the "open altar" time many churches do, but people would write out their requests when they came forward. Some people would pick up cards as they came into church and had them ready so they would just come forward, place the card in the basket and go back to their seat.

I stole their idea. It was amazing how many people participated every single week. We put index cards on the altars. We had index cards on a table as you came into the sanctuary. We had index cards by the basket. And people snatched them up and wrote out their needs and praises. As a pastor, I never read the cards, but I did pray over the basket almost every day. And guess what happened? God began to answer those prayers!   People were healed. People found jobs. Families were strengthened. Wisdom was given. I started getting emails and having conversations about how God was answering prayers and it was amazing! I'm not sure why I was so surprised because the Bible tells us over and over if we will pray, God will answer our prayers.

A couple of months ago we as pastors were given cards and asked to turn them in at District Assembly. They were the VISION 2020 cards. These cards said this:

With God's help, our FAITH PROJECTION for 2020 is:

You have no idea how excited I was to have a new set of cards to pray over! I asked Beth Nichols if she would put the cards on a ring that I could carry around, keep with me and pray over. She did and I have been doing just that. However, I have one problem. Not everyone turned in a card. In fact, barely over half turned them in. I know many probably thought it was just another thing to do that doesn't really matter. Or some may have just forgot. But I am taking this seriously and want to be in consistent prayer for you and your church. If you didn't turn in a 20/20 card would you please email our district office at beth@eastohionaz.org with your name, church name and the answers to those four questions. We will put your responses on a card and add it to our ring. You can be assured that someone is praying for you. If you aren't sure if you did it or not, do it again and we'll double check with what we have. I believe God is going to do amazing things among us and it starts with prayer. So do me a favor and fill up our Inbox here at the district office and I'll start praying for you and your church!

With God's Help,

Dave Lutz

KIDS' FUN DAY!

Great News from Woodsfield Church of the Nazarene

Pastor Joe and the kids
making "salvation bracelets"

On Saturday, August 1st, the Woodsfield Church of the Nazarene hosted a Kids' Fun Day. The Theme for the event was "One Day, One Way."

The children were treated to carnival games with lots of prizes, hot dogs, cotton candy and popcorn. They got to make crafts, play games and win some really cool tablets and MP4 players. They also watched puppet shows, made salvation bracelets and had Bible study on the Prodigal Son.

Now here is the really great news. Many of the children that attended do not go to church anywhere and at the end of the day 28 first-time decisions for Christ were made by children and their parents! In the next couple of days another 2 adults came to Jesus making a total of 30 decisions for Christ!  Praise the Lord for His faithfulness!

CHURCH PLANTING TRAINING EVENT - MVNU

Pastors,

Church planting can be one of the most exciting and faith stretching ministries in which you participate. In recent years over 1,000 Nazarene pastors and leaders have been trained to be part of the church planting movement.

On the MVNU campus we are hosting our second training event August 10-14, 2015.

Dates/Times: Monday, August 10, 2015 - 1:00pm to Friday, August 14, 2015 - 11:30am

Participants have three track options at this church planting training:

  1. Church Planting Essentials
  2. Churches Planting Churches
  3. Becoming a Mentor.

Additionally, there will be Certified Trainer training before and after this event.

Church Planting Essentials is church planting "basic training." It is ideal for church plant pastors. The materials were created by Dynamic Church Planting International, based upon years of working in mission areas where the church is expanding rapidly. It is 3 full days, and teaches how to:

  • Organize and refine your vision, purpose, strategies, and timeline early,
so that you have a clear plan for the future.
  • Use Biblical principles for church planting in everything you do.
  • Recognize and avoid common church planting "land mines".

Churches Planting Churches is church sponsorship 101. It is ideal for pastors of sponsoring churches. It was also developed by Dynamic Church Planting International and lasts 3 days. The sessions in this training equip you to:

  • Answer fears and objections to church planting
  • Determine the involvement of the mother church
  • Find resources needed to fund the daughter church
  • Overcome common barriers in the new work
  • Recruit a church planter and leadership
  • Create your own personalized V.I.P. (Vision-Involvement-Plan)

Becoming a Mentor is three full days that train mentors to coach, shepherd, and supervise church planters.

In addition to these training tracks, there is Certified Trainer training that equips and certifies participants to re-teach the materials in their local context. It is provided at no extra cost. Those wishing to be certified must attend a session before their track begins, and another session when their track has finished. Certified Trainer training is identical for both tracks and need only be taken once.
