 OUR DISTRICT PASTOR

Dear EOD Family,

I stopped by McDonald's this morning for a cup of coffee.   I turned on my iPad so I could catch up on the world and what is happening. I wanted to read the sports page (What do you know...the Buckeyes are#1 and my Mountaineers are unranked.) I also wanted to catch up on my Facebook world. I'm sure someone had something interesting for supper they wanted to share a picture of, a few cute selfies were posted and another picture I should share if I truly love Jesus. My problem is I can't get my iPad connected to the Internet. A list of 6 different sources pop up but none of them work. There is the "McDonald's Free Internet" which I click on about 10 times and it does nothing. After the tenth time I thought about going up to the counter and suggesting they rename their network to "McDonald's Stupid Broken Internet." But I'm new here and still trying to make a good impression. I try all the other networks and none of them work either.

What do you do when technology doesn't work? I tap the screen harder! It's like making my iPad think I'm more serious and it should work harder. "Don't make me tap you HARDER because I will!!" I do the same thing over and over even though it doesn't work. Like I said, ten times I tried and ten times it didn't work. Honestly, I didn't give up because I realized it wouldn't work, I gave up because I drank all my coffee. Finally, if all else fails, yell at it! Yes, I apologized for calling it names and saying its mother doesn't love it.

One more thing about all this, even though I knew I wasn't connected to the Internet, why did I try to get on Safari four times and get frustrated because it was a blank page telling me to "Connect to the Internet?" Why even try to get on if I know I'm not connected?

I can hear Jesus telling a story today like this. "I am the World Wide Web and you are the browser. Unconnected to me, you are nothing." Connect yourself to Jesus. Sunday is quickly approaching. I'm sure this week has had a million demands on your time and attention. Stuff needs done and fixed and organized. In all my years as a pastor, not once did anyone ever ask me if I had "connected with God before I preached." I have been asked why there wasn't a bulletin, if I remembered to order Sunday School books, and if I could get the toilet unclogged before church started. But never, "Have you prayed through with God before you talk with us?"

What is the single most important thing you could do before this Sunday morning that would impact your church for Jesus more than anything else? Connect with God. Heart to heart and spirit to soul. Which is more important...a beautiful bulletin or connecting to God?; having Sunday School books ordered or connecting to God?; having an unplugged toilet or connecting to God? Okay, that last one might be close, but I think you get my point. It's not that any of those other things are bad, it's just that connecting with God is essential and nothing else can make up for it.

Find some time between now and Sunday morning, slow your life down and focus on connecting with God. Wrap your sermon, your Sunday School lesson, group study or children's lesson around the heart of God. Because Jesus said, "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." (John 15:7)

Stay connected!

MIDDLER AND PRETEEN CAMP THANK YOU

Middler & Preteen Camp was an awesome week.  We want to thank each and every worker, helper and all volunteers.

Thank you, Pastor Jason and Tina Caddy, for your wonderful leading in Preteen camp. Thank you to my wife, Laura Kimball, for helping me with Middler camp.  Without this group of awesome people we would not pull off such a great week. God was truly at camp in every service and activity.

Talk to your campers and ask them questions about the week...what did they bring home from camp, what changes happened while they were at camp, how can they use what they learned at home, in life and at your church?

It does not stop at camp.  There is so much more that God has in store for this year's campers. Thank you to all the churches that participated, helped, sent workers and prayed. We are blessed by it!

CHURCH PLANTING TRAINING EVENT - MVNU

Pastors,

Church planting can be one of the most exciting and faith stretching ministries in which you participate. In recent years over 1,000 Nazarene pastors and leaders have been trained to be part of the church planting movement.

On the MVNU campus we are hosting our second training event August 10-14, 2015.

Dates/Times: Monday, August 10, 2015 - 1:00pm to Friday, August 14, 2015 - 11:30am

Participants have three track options at this church planting training:

  1. Church Planting Essentials
  2. Churches Planting Churches
  3. Becoming a Mentor.

Additionally, there will be Certified Trainer training before and after this event.

Church Planting Essentials is church planting "basic training." It is ideal for church plant pastors. The materials were created by Dynamic Church Planting International, based upon years of working in mission areas where the church is expanding rapidly. It is 3 full days, and teaches how to:

  • Organize and refine your vision, purpose, strategies, and timeline early,
so that you have a clear plan for the future.
  • Use Biblical principles for church planting in everything you do.
  • Recognize and avoid common church planting "land mines".

Churches Planting Churches is church sponsorship 101. It is ideal for pastors of sponsoring churches. It was also developed by Dynamic Church Planting International and lasts 3 days. The sessions in this training equip you to:

  • Answer fears and objections to church planting
  • Determine the involvement of the mother church
  • Find resources needed to fund the daughter church
  • Overcome common barriers in the new work
  • Recruit a church planter and leadership
  • Create your own personalized V.I.P. (Vision-Involvement-Plan)

Becoming a Mentor is three full days that train mentors to coach, shepherd, and supervise church planters.

In addition to these training tracks, there is Certified Trainer training that equips and certifies participants to re-teach the materials in their local context. It is provided at no extra cost. Those wishing to be certified must attend a session before their track begins, and another session when their track has finished. Certified Trainer training is identical for both tracks and need only be taken once.
