OUR DISTRICT PASTOR
| Dear EOD Family, Our family just got back from a short trip to Traverse City, MI. What an amazing place! In just a few days the Lutz family is going to fragment. I will be coming to East Ohio, Rachel will be going back to college, Brad will leave for basic training in the Air Force and Janet will be staying in Napoleon for a while. So, these last few days were an opportunity to get away and spend some time together. We had never been to Northern Michigan before. Many of our friends vacation up there and tell us how beautiful and wonderful it is. One challenge they told us we had to tackle was climbing the sand dunes at Sleeping Bear Dunes. Pictures and descriptions don't do these dunes justice. They are enormous! In fact, calling them dunes is like calling an alligator a lizard! They are the size of a small mountain (Just Google it and you will see what I'm talking about!) Brad had the brilliant idea to see how fast we could make up the initial hill. He set his stopwatch and we took off running up the sand dune. In case you aren't aware, running uphill in sand is a little more than difficult! Part way up and out of breath, we walked the rest of the hill only to find out the dunes keep going and going if you want to reach the breathtaking views of Lake Michigan. I laid in the sand waiting for Janet and Rachel to make it to the top. Then we hiked farther and farther through the dunes to see one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen. I tell you this story because it teaches us so much about life and leadership. Let me talk about a few with you. 1. Pay attention to pain! Pain is a way for your body to let you know something is wrong. Part way up the first dune, my body was full of pain! My calves were burning, my breathing was hard, and my heart was pounding. That was my body saying, "Stop, you dummy!" Pushing too hard in spite of pain causes injury. In church and life, listen to the "pain." Conflict, bad attitudes, short tempers, and worry can sometimes be the pain signs that we need to slow down and catch our breath before we injure ourselves.
2. Life is best enjoyed together. As beautiful as the view was, it was better because it was with people I love. Sharing experiences, both good and bad, make life so much better. At one point I was tired and ready to quit. But one of my family said, "We have to get over that next dune to see the best view." Without them, I would have come so far and quit just short. We are better together.
3. Attitude is everything! Climbing the dunes is a huge physical workout. A person could see it as training. Another person could see it as punishment. We saw it as fun. The dunes are what they are. But how you approach them makes all the difference. Ministry and life are hard. But the attitude you approach them with determines whether you enjoy life or dread it. If you are waiting for life to get easy to start having fun, that day probably is never going to come. Start having fun today even with the challenges and difficult things you have to face.
4. God is bigger than anything we face. When you see the natural beauty of what God created, it reminds you how great and powerful God is. He crafted this. He formed it. In God's imagination He thought this up and then made it. Why is it that we often think our problems are too big for God or that He can't handle them? The God who placed the stars in the sky, measured out the oceans in his hands, and formed the mountains can handle any situation we face.
Have fun in the journey! Dave Lutz |

MIDDLER AND PRETEEN CAMP THANK YOU
|
Middler & Preteen Camp was an awesome week. We want to thank each and every worker, helper and all volunteers.
Thank you, Pastor Jason and Tina Caddy, for your wonderful leading in Preteen camp. Thank you to my wife, Laura Kimball, for helping me with Middler camp. Without this group of awesome people we would not pull off such a great week. God was truly at camp in every service and activity.
Talk to your campers and ask them questions about the week...what did they bring home from camp, what changes happened while they were at camp, how can they use what they learned at home, in life and at your church?
It does not stop at camp. There is so much more that God has in store for this year's campers. Thank you to all the churches that participated, helped, sent workers and prayed. We are blessed by it!

CHURCH PLANTING TRAINING EVENT - MVNU |
Pastors, Church planting can be one of the most exciting and faith stretching ministries in which you participate. In recent years over 1,000 Nazarene pastors and leaders have been trained to be part of the church planting movement. On the MVNU campus we are hosting our second training event August 10-14, 2015. Dates/Times: Monday, August 10, 2015 - 1:00pm to Friday, August 14, 2015 - 11:30am Participants have three track options at this church planting training: - Church Planting Essentials
- Churches Planting Churches
- Becoming a Mentor.
Additionally, there will be Certified Trainer training before and after this event. Church Planting Essentials is church planting "basic training." It is ideal for church plant pastors. The materials were created by Dynamic Church Planting International, based upon years of working in mission areas where the church is expanding rapidly. It is 3 full days, and teaches how to: - Organize and refine your vision, purpose, strategies, and timeline early,
so that you have a clear plan for the future. - Use Biblical principles for church planting in everything you do.
- Recognize and avoid common church planting "land mines".
Churches Planting Churches is church sponsorship 101. It is ideal for pastors of sponsoring churches. It was also developed by Dynamic Church Planting International and lasts 3 days. The sessions in this training equip you to: - Answer fears and objections to church planting
- Determine the involvement of the mother church
- Find resources needed to fund the daughter church
- Overcome common barriers in the new work
- Recruit a church planter and leadership
- Create your own personalized V.I.P. (Vision-Involvement-Plan)
Becoming a Mentor is three full days that train mentors to coach, shepherd, and supervise church planters.
In addition to these training tracks, there is Certified Trainer training that equips and certifies participants to re-teach the materials in their local context. It is provided at no extra cost. Those wishing to be certified must attend a session before their track begins, and another session when their track has finished. Certified Trainer training is identical for both tracks and need only be taken once.
