DISTRICT ADVISORY COUNCIL CALL TO PRAYER

Greetings from your District Advisory Council!
The Advisory Council is the District Advisory Board, District Secretary, District Treasurer, and District Auxiliary Leaders (SDMI, NMI, NYI).

As we are in the process of selecting a new district leader, the most important element is prayer.  We want to invite you to seek the heart of God in this matter and bathe this entire process in prayer.  You probably have already started praying, but we encourage the whole body of Christ to ask for God's wisdom and direction.

Thank you for all you do for The Kingdom of God.  His people deserve our best efforts!

Prayerfully,

Mike Byus,
District Advisory Board Secretary

Shoe Collection UPDATE and Thank You!

Promised Land Compassionate Ministries Center (Martins Ferry COTN)

We need SHOES!  We are very close to our goal so that we can complete our first shoe drive.  If you need your shoes picked up please feel free to contact me at 740-298-0101.

I have also been traveling around the district doing a short presentation with a two-minute video that explains how the Shoe Collection benefits our Compassionate Ministry Center, and also how it helps those in third-world countries who are in need of shoes.  Please allow me to come in and do a presentation at your church.  It really does help us to be able to fund the needs of people in Belmont County.

A big Thank You to those churches who are already collecting shoes and supporting us.  It is greatly appreciated!

  MINISTRY SAFE UPDATE

Dear Pastors and Church Leaders,

Attached are some updates to Nazsafe (Ministry Safe). Some may or may not apply to us, but it is always good to make sure we are keeping updated and that our people are too.

Many of our churches have been doing their Nazsafe through the district. Many are due for updates. As that happens, I will be sending out e-mail reminders and with that you will need to send $5 for the training links. We will only be sending those to those who are actively doing District events such as Camps, BLAST, Quizzing and such. (Although if you know of someone or you want someone renewed please send me their information and I will get it taken care of.)

It is very important that you send your payments to Gigi Blauser at 293 E. Main St., Cortland, OH 44410. Checks are payable to "EOD Sunday School."  Payment must be received before we send you the training link so we can make sure that we have funds to cover each training link.

Please feel free to call me if you have questions. If I do not answer I will get with you as soon as I can. I work a full time job and volunteer at my church as well. You can reach me these ways: mlkimball@sbcglobal.net, facebook message or 330-257-0603 (and yes I text.)

Thank you for all you do to keep your workers, youth, children and vulnerable adults safe.

MINISTERIAL CANDIDATE RECOMMENDATIONS (IMPORTANT)

February 3, 2015

Dear East Ohio District Pastors,

The Ministerial Credentials Board will be meeting Tuesday, April 14th, at Canton First Church of the Nazarene to interview all candidates for district minister's license (new or renewal) or ordination (elder or deacon). The Credentials Board will then make its recommendations to the district assembly on Monday, June 15th for official action. Your assistance is needed in a few important matters regarding this meeting:

1.      Please phone or e-mail me the following information by Friday, March 1st.  I will then use the information you supplied to contact all candidates for license, license renewal, and ordination. The mailing will go out following the above deadline.

a.      If you are recommending candidates for a NEW district minister's license (elder or deacon), please provide me their names, addresses and phone numbers. Please remember that anyone who will be recommended for a first time license must have first completed the Ministerial Development & Assessment Conference held in January.

Please remember that such candidates must have served as local ministers (appointed by the local church board) for 1 year by the time of assembly before they are eligible for a district minister's license.

If any candidate with a divorce in his or her background has not yet met with the credentials board concerning "removal of divorce as a barrier to licensing," and received notification of such "removal" from the district credentials board, the candidate is ineligible to apply for district license this year. The credentials board meets annually for this purpose, usually in November. A notification is sent to all pastors via mail and e-mail in the month prior to this important meeting.

b.      If you are recommending candidates for RENEWAL of district minister's license or ORDINATION, I will use the address and phone information printed in the "Licensed Ministers" list of the 2014 District Journal. (I have attached the appropriate page from the journal.) It is IMPORTANT that you check this information against your records and let me know of any changes by the above deadline. You may be the only source I have for address corrections.

2.      Complete the enclosed Ministerial Candidate Recommendation Forms on behalf of any candidates your church will be recommending for a district minister's license (new or renewal) or ordination, and mail the completed recommendation form(s) to me so they arrive by Friday, March 13th.  These forms will also be available at www.eastohionaz.org. District licensed ministers who are pastoring churches are to mail a completed recommendation form on their own behalf by the same deadline, but the district advisory board, not their church board, will serve as the recommending board, with the district superintendent and advisory board secretary signing. (The recommendation form does not apply to candidates seeking Recognition of Credentials from another denomination.)

3.      Candidates seeking a new district minister's license or who are transferring from another district/denomination are required to participate in a one-time background search. The background release authorization form will be mailed directly to each candidate, but the local church may wish to consider picking up the $40.00 fee. Please make the check out to "East Ohio District COTN" and mail the check and release authorization to arrive by Friday, March 13th.

4.      Order the following materials from Nazarene Publishing House (800-877-0700) for yourself and your candidates:

Sourcebook for Ministerial Development (Item # U-2000), a guide for ministerial candidates which takes them from affirming their call to ministry, to finding their ministerial role, to fulfilling the requirements for ordination.

Ministry Internship Notebook (Item # S-100), the workbook needed to complete the one-year internship required for all candidates. (Please direct questions about the internship to the district ministerial studies board chairperson or secretary.)

The Manual

God bless your ministry,

Gregory S. Kasler
East Ohio District Secretary

  NMI - FAITHFUL FEET 5K

Dear Pastor,

We have less than 90 days to raise $5,000 to support the work for Christ in Croatia. Please join your EOD Family on June 6th at Malone University for the FaithfulFeet5K and 1 Mile Pastor's Challenge.

Please help spread the good word of this event to all the families in your congregation. It will be a fun-filled day of running, walking, music, food, fellowship and lots of giggles!

As a Pastor and your Nazarene Missions International President, I am issuing this Challenge to all Pastoral staff on the District: Put on your running/walking shoes and join me in rallying our church families to participate in this event and support NMI.  I am asking you to personally participate with me in the 1 Mile Pastor's Challenge. It's a fun way to raise dollars toward our goal.

Let EVERYONE know that you are seeking sponsorship for every foot that you walk/jog in the 1 Mile. Have each of your sponsors make their pledges online.   For bragging rights, the top Five Fund Raisers also known as the "Fabulous Five," will receive special recognition at the NMI Convention on June 13th.   Please encourage your church families to participate in the 5K or walk the 1 Mile beside you.

Ask everyone to visit www.FaithfulFeet5K.org  to sign up today!

For questions or additional information please contact me at:  PastorBarb@TallmadgeNazarene.org

  LADIES' RETREAT

Ladies, put the following date on your calendar now and begin to plan for the upcoming retreat.
  • Speaker:  Jeannie McCullough
  • Musician:  Heather Eastin
  • Date:  October 9-10, 2015
  • Location:  Fishcreek Church of the Nazarene
About Jeannie McCullough...

Jeannie has been a pastor's wife, a mother, and a grandmother. Her life and ministry have taken her to many cities across the United States. In 1985, her husband, Mel, became Senior Pastor at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma where he served for 19 years and where W.O.W. (Wisdom Of the Word) first began. She understands firsthand how radical obedience to God's Word can change a life.

As Jeannie has committed herself to being a student of the Word, God has given her many opportunities to share what He is teaching her. She was granted an honorary doctorate in 1997 from Southern Nazarene University. She is in great demand as a speaker throughout North America due to her humor and honesty, as well as her unique insights and application of the Scriptures to daily living. A goal in her life is to be a "salt tablet" to make others "thirsty" for God's Word.

Begin now to plan and prepare for a special time with your friends on the district and a special time with the Lord.  Watch the Ezine for further details.
