Village Ranks 69th in the Latest 100 Safest U.S. Cities Survey
 
Neighborhood Scout, a geo-based data-analytic firm for Fortune 500 companies publishes an annual ranking of cities with populations greater than 25,000 for the incidence of certain felony crimes. Their latest Top 100 Safest Cities survey was just published ranking Carol Stream the 69th safest U.S. city.  The summary data below compares the rates per 1,000 residents of serious felony crimes (reported to the FBI) for 2015:

is from the FBI crime statistics database utilized by 18,000 local law enforcement agencies nation-wide. Reportable felony crimes in the annual survey include homicide, rape, robbery, burglary, aggravated assault, larceny over $50, as well as motor vehicle theft and arson. Police Chief Sailer thanked his Command Staff, sworn Officers and the support team for all of their successful efforts to ensure Carol Stream remains a safe place to live, work and raise a family. In 2015, Carol Stream ranked 82 in the 2015 survey of safest U.S. Cities. This is the 5th consecutive year the Village has ranked in Neighborhood Scout's  top 100 Safest Cities survey. 
School District 93 to Host Kindergarten Registration
 
Community Consolidated School District 93 will conduct kindergarten registration for the 2016-17
school year on Tuesday, February 23rd beginning at 6:30 pm at all district elementary schools that include Carol Stream, Coverdale, Heritage Lakes, Roy Deshane, and Western Trails in Carol Stream and Elsie Johnson in Hanover Park. To enter kindergarten in the fall of 2016, children must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2016. Parents of prospective kindergarteners must bring an official county birth certificate with the raised or multi-color seal to validate your child's age, an official driver's license and a current utility bill for proof of residency. Public Works Hiring for Summer Help Positions
 
The Public Works Department seeks applicants for several seasonal positions to perform outdoor maintenance including mowing, hydrant painting and minor utility repairs. Successful candidates will work a 40-hour week, Monday thru Friday from    7 am - 3:30 pm with occasional opportunities for overtime. Candidates must be at least 18 years old to apply and hires will earn $9.25/hour. The Carol Stream community hosted the 50th Annual Citizen of the Year Banquet this past past Saturday at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites. Many past nominees and honorees were in attendance for the GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY celebration of volunteerism and community service. The 2015 Citizen of the Year class of honorees includes the following residents and community supporters:

Earned Income Tax Credit: You Earned It, Now Claim It!
 
If you worked at a job any time during 2015, you could owe less income tax and get cash back from the IRS through the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). You may be able to apply if you have:
 

    3 or more qualifying children and your earned income was <$47,747 

        or $53,267 if married and filing jointly;

   2 qualifying children and your earned income was <$44,545   
       or $49,974  if married and filing jointly;
   1  qualifying child and your earned income was <$39,131
       or $44,651 if married and filing jointly;
   Childless and your earned income was <$14,820
        or $20,330 if married and filing jointly.
 
In most cases, the EITC does not affect benefits like TANF, Foods Stamps, SSI, Medicaid or public housing. If you qualified but failed to apply for a tax credit for any or all of the last 5 tax years, you may file retroactively for the tax credit. LATE Voter Registration for the General Primary Election

The General Primary Election in Illinois is Tuesday, March 15th.  Voters who need to register or transfer their registration to their new address for the upcoming election can do so through Monday, February 15th at any voter registration facility
or online at the Illinois State Board of Elections website. Late Voter registration begins Tuesday, February 16th and voters can only register during the grace period at the DuPage Election Commission located in the DuPage County Government Center at 421 N. County Farm Rd.  When doing so, voters must bring an ID that has your name and current address such as a valid Illinois Driver's license, State ID card, Passport, current utility bill, bank statement or pay check stub.  
Village Administrative Offices Closed on President's Day
 
Village administrative offices will be closed on Monday, February 15th for the President's Day holiday. The 2nd Village Board meeting for February will be held on Tuesday, February 16th at 7:30 pm. There will be NO DELAY in refuse and recycling service during the holiday week. Please note that the Police Records Division is open 24/7 to serve residents and customers.
