Secure Your Car this Holiday Season

The incidence of vehicle break ins increases during the Christmas holiday season. The opportunities to steal valuables from a parked vehicle are plentiful which requires residents to be especially vigilant throughout this holiday season to keep from being a victim. The Carol Stream Police Department advises residents to follow the recommended car burglary prevention tips now and all year round:

Never store holiday gifts in the passenger compartment of a vehicle but always locked in the trunk.

Before arriving to your destination, remove all valuables from plain view such as your cell phone, sunglasses, a GPS device, an IPOD or MP3 player or other items of value to you. Store valuables under the seats or in a locked glove compartment.

Never store a back up set of car/truck/van keys in your vehicle.

Lock all doors upon exiting your vehicle and make sure you hear the confirmation beep from your wireless vehicle lock before proceeding to your destination.

When shopping during evening hours, always park in a well lit area to discourage a burglar from targeting your vehicle and its contents. Parking as close to the store/mall entrance as possible can also be a deterrent to would be burglars.

Electronics Landfill Ban
Do Not Put Electronics @ Curbside

On January 1, 2012, Illinois Banned Electronics or e-waste from being landfilled.  The two-fold objective of this legislation was to prevent metals contamination of groundwater resources around Illinois landfills and to also strengthen the state's electronics recycling market by creating jobs in the growing green manufacturing sector. Residents are reminded that placing their unwanted electronics at curbside for refuse collection is in opposition to the landfill ban and maybe subject to ticketing.  For recycling options, click on the following link ---  Electronics Recycling Options.
