Residents are invited to decorate their home this holiday season for a chance to win a $100 gift card from American Sale. A gift card will be awarded to a homeowner in each of the following decorating categories:

The Village, Park and Library Districts have organized an annual holiday lights recycling effort to collect used, broken or unwanted holiday lights strands or frayed/worn extension cords. The program recycler, Elgin Recycling will service collection barrels at the following 4 location where the general public can conveniently drop off their light stands and cords:

The Park District will conclude its winter coat collection drive on Monday, November 30th.

This edition of the E-Stream Newsletter includes information about news, events and activities in and around the Carol Stream community during the coming weeks.  We hope this information is useful to you. PLEASE NOTE: The December water bill has a write in donation box on the payment invoice giving water customers an opportunity to make a donation to the Christmas Sharing Program. This program effort assists under-resourced families in our community with provisions for a traditional holiday meal and new children's toys.
Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony Set
 

The Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, December 4th at the Ferraro Town Center.  Christmas Caroling led by the Jay Stream Choir under the faculty direction of Marilyn Leary will begin promptly at 6:00 pm, followed by dance entertainment from a local troupe then Santa Claus's  highly anticipated arrival at 6:30 pm. Once the tree is aglow, travel the short distance to the Fountain View Recreation Center for holiday refreshments, holiday music, kid's crafts and a complimentary photo with Ol' St. Nick.

Open enrollment is underway for the Citizen Police Academy scheduled to kick off on Thursday, January  28th  and continue on consecutive Thursday evenings through April 7th. Training sessions begin at 6:30 pm and include education and demonstrations on the following: Investigations, Crime Scene Processing, Drug Awareness, DUI Enforcement, Use of Force, Social Services, Dispatching, Firearm Safety, Traffic Stops and a Ride along with Patrol. Sessions will be held in the training room in the lower level of the Bielawski Municipal Center located at 500 N. Gary Ave. Adults 18 years and older may enroll by contacting Officer Tom Eby at 630-871-6201, by e-mail to teby@carolstream.org  or by clicking on the photo above.
FINAL WEEK for Yard & Leaf Waste Pick Up
 
Flood Brothers Disposal Co. will suspend yard waste collection service for the 2015 collection year at the close of the November 23rd collection week. Please use the coming week to dispose of the remaining yard waste collected on your property. PLEASE NOTE that because there is no refuse service on the Thanksgiving Day holiday, Thursday and Friday areas will be picked up 1 day later than usual. Discount leaf stickers (ORANGE) will be honored during the final yard waste collection week to ONLY dispose of resident's BAGGED LEAVES.
ALL OTHER YARD WASTE such as tree limbs and branches, shrub, garden and grass clippings placed at curbside for pick up during this final week will require a standard YELLOW yard waste sticker.
2016 Vehicle Sticker Design Contest Underway

CAROL STREAM SENIORS 60 years and older who have a talent in the creative visual arts are asked to consider submitting an art design for consideration as the official 2016 Vehicle Registration Sticker. The theme of the sticker design contest is 'MY CAROL STREAM' and the artist submitting the winning design will receive a coupon book for a 1 year supply of Culver's frozen custard. A contest entry form can be downloaded from a link on the left side of the Village's homepage. Contest entries will be accepted through Friday, December 18th. Judging of the designs will take place shortly after the new year.
Christmas Sharing Program Registration

The Police Department's is accepting applications for Christmas Sharing Program assistance from Village residents. Registration locations are open Monday - Thursday from 10AM - 1 PM until  Friday, December 4th. To apply for assistance, residents must bring a picture I.D. and a copy of a recent utility bill to either of the following registration locations:

Keep the Wreath RED this Holiday Season

   

The Carol Stream Fire Protection District urges everyone to help 'Keep the Wreath Red'  this holiday season. A holiday wreath illuminated with red bulbs will be displayed in front of Fire Station 28 on Kuhn Rd. from November 27th thru January 1st. All throughout this period, should a fire occur involving holiday decorations, 1 of the red bulbs will be changed to white. This wreath should serve as a reminder of the precautions that should be taken during this season to keep you, your family and property fire safe. Library Hosts Holiday Open House

The Carol Stream Library Board and staff cordially invite the community to attend their annual Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 6th from 1:30 - 4:30 pm at their facility at 616 Hiawatha Dr. Open House festivities will include live reindeers, a horse-drawn sleigh ride, an ice sculpture of the Stanley Cup trophy, holiday movie showings, caroling, a bell choir an assortment of holiday treats and a visit from Santa Claus.
