Village Honored for Energy Management

Wastewater Treatment is the single most energy-intensive municipal service the Village provides its water and sewer customers. Pumps and motors are in continuous operating mode as the demand for waste treatment is 24/7/365. In the Village's ongoing efforts to manage the electrical costs for this essential public health service, we enrolled in a 3-year energy demand response program that allows us to voluntarily step down electric consumption during the summer time peak demand period (June - September ).  In the event the plant's  operating conditions are stable enough to accommodate a step down request, the Village would run certain phases of waste treatment using its backup generators. The program's objective is to prevent the electric grid from getting overwhelmed that could lead to an area/region-wide blackout. The program administrator, Energy Curtailment Specialists in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation rewards customers for their participation that includes a complimentary tree planting effort on behalf of the enrollee as well as cash payments to the Village that can total up to $13,000 for a single 6-hour load shed event. The Village's commitment to this program under our initial agreement extends through September 2017.

Raking Leaves into the Street is Prohibited

Village Code prohibits residents  from causing obstructions to the Village's storm collection system. Storm sewer inlets clogged with leaves will cause localized street and property flooding in a heavy storm event. Violators are subject to ticketing for each separate offense. Residents are asked to regularly rake or vacuum up leaves from along the curbline in front of their home to prevent localized flooding.
