FIREWORKS
Illegal in Illinois

With July 4th fast approaching, the Village reminds residents that fireworks are illegal in Illinois.  Local code allows the Village to enforce the State prohibition under local ordinance that includes a $250 hang on ticket which MUST be paid within 10 days to avoid having the offense prosecuted in  DuPage County Circuit Court. The following pyrotechnics are classified as illegal throughout Illinois and subject to enforcement action:

Blank cartridges

Firecrackers

Torpedoes

Sky Rockets

Roman Candles

Toy Cannons using explosives

Balloons requiring fire underneath

Highly charged fireworks

Fireworks or tablets containing an explosive compound

 Do Your Part to
'Fight the Bite'

To prevent your property from being a drought mosquito-breeding site, follow the precautions below.

  Keep your home's gutters clear of leaves & twigs;

  Keep lids on trash containers to keep out rainwater;

  Repair leaky pipes & outside faucets;

  Empty wading pools each week and store them indoors when not in use;

  Securely cover your backyard pool when on vacation;

  Fill in hollowed out tree stumps

with sand or concrete;

   Change the water in
birdbaths, plant pots, and drip trays at least once a week;

   Cut your grass weekly and regularly trim your shrubbery to eliminate mosquito hiding places ;

   Store boats

covered or upside down and remove rainwater weekly;

  Repair torn window screens.

The key to controlling West Nile Virus is by reducing their favorite breeding sites (pre-hatch) and egg destruction and not adult spraying, as is commonly thought. Because aerosol rapidly dissipates, only the mosquitoes that come into contact with the insecticide droplets are killed. Report areas of excessive mosquito infestation and areas of standing water to Clarke's 'Mosquito Hotline' at

800-323-5727.
