Dear NEPTA Members,
With a great hope for the upcoming spring, my warmest wishes to all of you at the end of this chilly winter! Hope all of you were able to find some cozy moments in your busy schedules and are greeting with happiness the first signs of the spring!
It was wonderful to see so many of you at the enlightening presentation of the NEPTA Editions Committee. However, our February meeting was cancelled due to the injury of the guest-speaker Lois Shapiro. Hopefully we will be able to make arrangements to hear Ms. Shapiro's presentation next NEPTA season.
Outstanding Junior I, II, Intermediate I, Senior, Ensemble, Composition, Jazz & Pop, 20th & 21st Century recitals have taken place in January through the beginning of March. The students' talent, dedication and hard work were evident in their impressive performances. I wish to thank all of the teachers who have participated in these events. Special appreciation to the Recital and Awards Committee Chairs: Marianne Jensen, Karin Kydland, Diana Tetzlaff, Niva Fried, Elizabeth Landman, Nina Grimaldi, Natacha Rist, Kathryn Rosenbach and Heather Riley.
We have a new very cute arrival in our NEPTA family. With warmest wishes I would like to welcome baby Rachel, and to wish her and her parents Mark and Tina Liu a lot of happiness in their life! With her new life position as a mother, Tina stepped down from her NEPTA position, and I am eager to introduce you to our new Program Booklet Coordinator, Jan Spillane. We all are looking forward to working together with Jan! On Monday, March 30, please join us when Yoheved Kaplinsky, a classical pianist, lecturer and professor of music at the Juilliard School, will talk about Dorothy Taubman's legacy. I am looking forward to seeing you all there!
Kind regards,
Irina Y. Gelman President

NEPTA TEACHERS' RECITAL A SUCCESS
At the fifth Annual Teachers' Recital on February 7, NEPTA pianists, colleagues and friends came together for a glorious evening of music at the M. Steinert and Sons in Boston.
The concert featured piano solo, duo and chamber works and raised money for the Susan B. Demb Teacher Enrichment Fund. A reception of wine, cheese, beverages and desserts added to the festivities. Disregarding the weather, an audience of more than 50 people attended the concert.
Thank you very much to all of the performers who donated their artistry and hours of preparation! Special thanks go to Donna Gross Javel and Robert Finley. Also great appreciation to all those who attended and contributed so generously to making the event a success. The entire concert was video recorded, and excerpts will be posted on YouTube soon.
If you were unable to attend but would like to contribute to the Susan B. Demb fund, please send your check to Lindsey Robb, Treasurer, 40 Montvale #3, Roslindale, MA 02131.

TEACHING THEORY! at APRIL 13 TEACHERS' EXCHANGE
The Spring Teachers' Exchange, about Teaching Theory, is slated for Monday, April 13 at the Wellesley Free Library. These are always active, interesting sessions, and we look forward to seeing many of you there!
In the first hour, Eugenia Gerstein will present her method of teaching music theory and ear training to young children.
For the second hour, please bring your theory books and your ideas about teaching theory, as Catherine Hirata moderates an open discussion among NEPTA members. Everyone is invited to participate! Please note the change in format from the previously published format, which was a presentation rather than an open discussion. Teachers will discuss, among other things, which books, apps, and technology resources they use for teaching theory, and what they like or do not like about them. (This could include theory books that are part of piano methods.) It would be helpful if everyone could bring copies of the books they use, and/or iPads or laptops, so others could have a look at them. If you would like to participate in this discussion you need not contact anyone ahead of time; however, if you have any questions, feel free to contact Catherine at chirata@verizon.net.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR NEPTA
Volunteer opportunities abound within NEPTA! Please contact Irina Gelman at gelmanpiano@aol.com if you are interested in helping our wonderful organization.

PARKING ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Watertown Savings Bank has strongly requested that NEPTA members do not park in the bank parking lot for NEPTA events. Please be respectful of this neighboring business and leave the free parking for its clients.
Please be aware that Watertown has restricted parking on the side streets immediately surrounding the First Parish and thus eliminating any "free parking." The metered spots in the parking lot adjacent to the church can accept coins up to a maximum of 8 hours (blue meters only), thereby removing the need to go feed the meter during our meeting breaks, offering instead an opportunity to socialize with NEPTA friends and colleagues.

MUSIC SALE
Our Music Sale is back by popular demand, once again organized by Ruth Ross, Music Library and Donation Chair. Please join us prior to all regular meetings in September, October, January, February, March and May at The First Parish starting at 9 AM. Members are asked to bring their checkbooks and any music that they are willing to donate that morning.
The sale serves three purposes:
- Teachers have access to music that, perhaps, has gone out of print
- Standard teaching methods and collections can be acquired at a very reasonable price
- All proceeds go directly to the NEPTA Scholarship Fund
Please direct any questions to Ruth Ross at rrosspiano@aol.com.
