Jessica Rucinski writes the following:
"I have to leave my teaching job at the North End Music and Performing Arts Center (in Boston's North End) as soon as possible because I've been offered a full-time job. I have been teaching five students ranging in age from about 8 to 11 on Tuesdays from 3 to 6:30. They're lovely kids, some very talented, and have been trained with some theory, ear-training, and sight-reading as well as piano technique." Please contact Jessica (liebelied7@gmail.com) for more information.

 FEBRUARY GREETINGS

Irina color pic

Dear NEPTA Colleagues,

Hope you are staying warm and cozy this arctic winter. It is providential that all NEPTA events have gone as scheduled during the month of January and the beginning of February: exiting Junior and Intermediate Recitals, an enjoyable Peter Mack's presentation, and the festive Fourth Annual Teachers' Recital.

Natacha Rist has captured the essence of Peter Mack's presentation on Marvelous Moderns and their Needlessly Neglected Masterpieces in her notes which will be posted soon.

January 2014
Peter Mack at January meeting

Outstanding Junior I, II and Intermediate I, II recitals have taken place in January. The students' talent, dedication and hard work were evident in their impressive performances. I wish to thank all of the teachers who have participated in these events. Special appreciation to the Recital and Awards Committee Chairs: Victoria Suchodolski, Karin Kydland, Lyubov Shlain, Indiana Chalsen, Diana Tetzlaff, Janice Zaganjori, Angela Gazza and Dianne Impallaria.

On Monday, February 24th please join us when  George Litterst, nationally known music educator, performer and software developer will explore "Catching up with the 21st Century: Practical Technologies that Give Wings to Your Teaching." I'll look forward to seeing you all there!

Best regards,

Irina Y. Gelman

President

FOURTH ANNUAL NEPTA TEACHERS' RECITAL & FUNDRAISER PROGRAM

At the fourth Annual Teachers' Recital on February 8, NEPTA pianists, colleagues and friends came together for a glorious evening of music in the Rivera Hall at the Rivers School Conservatory in Weston. The concert featured piano solo and chamber works and raised money for the Susan B. Demb Teacher Enrichment Fund. An elegant reception of wine, cheese, beverages and desserts added to the festivities. A large audience of over 70 people attended the concert. Thank you very much to all of the performers who donated their artistry and hours of preparation! Heartfelt thanks go to Robert Finley, Lindsey Robb, Irina Baghdasaryan, and all board members. Also great appreciation to all those who attended and contributed so generously to making the event a resounding success. The entire concert was video recorded and excerpts will be posted on Youtube.com soon.

If you were unable to attend but would like to contribute to the Susan B. Demb Teacher Fund, please send your check to Lindsey Robb, Treasurer, 40 Montvale #3, Roslindale, MA 02131.

IDEAS FOR 2013-2014 SPEAKERS AND MASTERCLASS TEACHERS
Is there a speaker or pedagogue whom you would like to see as a Presenter for NEPTA? A topic you would particularly like to hear about? The Program Committee, led by Shann Wood, invites you to share your suggestions for the 2014-2015 Speakers Series and Masterclasses. Please send your ideas to Shann (shannwood@comcast.net). We would love to hear from you!

MUSIC SALE
Our Music Sale was informally endorsed by guest speaker Peter Mack at our last January meeting for having music he presented on. How wonderful! The sale continues prior to February, March and May meetings at The First Parish starting at 9:00 AM, organized by Ruth Ross, Music Library and Donation Chair. Members are asked to bring their checkbooks and any music that they are willing to donate that morning.

The sale serves three purposes:
  • Teachers have access to music that perhaps has gone out of print
  • Standard teaching methods and collections can be acquired at a very reasonable price
  • All proceeds go directly to the NEPTA Scholarship Fund
Please direct any questions to Ruth Ross at rrosspiano@aol.com.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Advertising Chair and Historian needed! Junior I,II and Intermediate I Recital Assistant Chairs are needed as well! Please contact gelmanpiano@aol.com if you are interested in any position.

PARKING REMINDER
PARKING METER -COLLEEN CAMPBELL Please be aware that Watertown has restricted parking on the side streets immediately surrounding the First Parish and thus eliminating any "free parking." The metered spots in the parking lot adjacent to the church can accept coins up to a maximum of 8 hours (blue meters only), thereby removing the need to go feed the meter during our meeting breaks, offering instead an opportunity to socialize with NEPTA friends and colleagues.
