 JANUARY GREETINGS

Irina color picDear NEPTA Colleagues,

Greetings in the New Year! My sincere wishes for a healthy, happy and successful 2014! I hope you all had enjoyable and restful holidays and filled yourself with the energy for your professional lives.

NEPTA concluded 2013 on a high note with the Teachers' Masterclass brilliantly taught by Professor Luiz de Moura Castro. Many thanks to Victoria Suchodolski, Wanda Paik and Robert Finley for their sublime performances.

The Teachers' Exchange and welcoming Members' Coffee were very informative and enjoyable. Sincere thanks to Marilyn Roth and Nina Grimaldi for sharing their successful approaches to teaching beginners outside of method books. I want to invite you to the NEPTA Facebook page to observe our Dalcroze exercises.

This winter we also have a lot of interesting events. On January 27th, our guest speaker Peter Mack will give a presentation on "Marvelous Moderns and their Needlessly Neglected Masterpieces". Professor Mack is a celebrated teacher and is famous for his easy rapport with audiences.

On Saturday, February 8th at 6:30 PM audience members will be treated to an All NEPTA Teachers' Recital and Fundraiser at the Rivers School Conservatory in Weston. An elegant wine and cheese reception will immediately follow the concert. Come support your colleagues and bring your friends, family members, and students to enjoy a wonderful evening of music. Visit www.rivers.org/directions for directions to the Rivers School . Park in the first lot and follow signs to Bradley Hall. Please scroll down for program information.

I'm looking forward to seeing you at all upcoming NEPTA events!

Best regards,

Irina Y. Gelman

BACHELDER AWARD SET AT $500 FOR 2013-2014

A reminder that NEPTA's Margaret C. Bachelder Award will be given for the best performance of a Romantic piece at the Alice Hamlet Senior Competition this spring.

The Bachelder Award was inadvertently left out of this year's NEPTA program booklet. Please make note of the award. The award amount has been set at $500 for the 2013-2014 year, thanks to the many thoughtful donors who have contributed to the Bachelder fund, and a one-time generous contribution from the Bachelder-Allen family. The Bachelder Award honors the memory of NEPTA past president and longtime member Peg Bachelder, who died in June 2012.

Please join us prior to the January, February, March and May meetings at The First Parish starting at 9:00 AM. Members are asked to bring their checkbooks and any music that they are willing to donate that morning.

  • Teachers have access to music that perhaps has gone out of print
  • Standard teaching methods and collections can be acquired at a very reasonable price
  • All proceeds go directly to the NEPTA Scholarship Fund
Please direct any questions to Ruth Ross at rrosspiano@aol.com.

PARKING REMINDER
PARKING METER -COLLEEN CAMPBELL Please be aware that Watertown has restricted parking on the side streets immediately surrounding the First Parish and thus eliminating any "free parking." The metered spots in the parking lot adjacent to the church can accept coins up to a maximum of 8 hours (blue meters only), thereby removing the need to go feed the meter during our meeting breaks, offering instead an opportunity to socialize with NEPTA friends and colleagues.
