Irina color picDear NEPTA Members,

Hope you are all enjoying the beauty of the New England fall season!

Our October 28th program was well-attended and featured a fascinating presentation by Rami Bar-Niv on the Piano Playing Fingering, Technique, and Interpretation. I'm sure we all enjoyed the very energetic and knowledgeable guest speaker, who shared his practical advice and piano demonstration pleasantly spiced with his exquisite sense of humor. Our newly-designed after the meeting discussion group met at Demos restaurant to enjoy lunch and lovely conversation. Thank you, Natacha Rist! I would like to invite more members to join after-meeting discussions for thoughtful exchange with colleagues during a lunch time.

Please join us for the upcoming Teachers' Exchange next Monday, November 18th. The coffeeNEPTA Members' Coffee Hour to welcome new members and to enjoy the company of NEPTA friends and colleagues, will take place from 9:00-9:30 a.m. at the Wellesley Library, 530 Washington St., Wellesley. Immediately following, will be a Teachers' Exchange on Successful Approaches to Teaching Beginners Outside of Method Books. Marilyn Roth of NEC will lead our panel focusing on building a foundation from the first lesson by nurturing skills necessary for the development of the young pianist. Nina Grimaldi will focus her part of the presentation on Dalcroze. Audience participation will be welcomed.

Please join us for an exciting Teachers' Masterclass featuring Luiz de Moura Castro, artist and master teacher, on Monday, December 9th at 9:30 a.m.,  First Parish of Watertown. Payment will be accepted at the door. Members: $20, Non-members: $30, Students/Seniors: $15. Proceeds will benefit the NEPTA Scholarship Fund.

STUDENT RECITALS AND COMPETITIONS

All NEPTA Student Recital and Competition Applications went online on October 15!

The online forms are amazingly user-friendly and will allow teachers to send in multiple students' information, completely paper- and postage-free, receive instant records of each application, and pay with a credit card. They can then download a spreadsheet from the application page, near the top, with all the students they have entered.

Recital and Competition Chairs will receive an online record of each application just seconds after the teacher who is applying presses the "pay" button. The Chairs can download a spreadsheet with all the students entered for a recital or competition. The link for this is in the menu on the right side of the application page.

Please view the new forms on our website! You will be delighted with the ease of use and time saved. The applications will also be available in downloadable paper form for this year only. We urge you to go green and embrace the new!

LETTER TO NEPTA MEMBERS FROM JEAN ALDERMAN

Dear NEPTA members,

This is a letter of apology. Because we moved, everything has been in upheaval, including my brain. However, it seems to me I should have realized long before this that I needed to notify NEPTA of the fact that we were going to live in Wisconsin. My intention had been to attend the final luncheon meeting where I would communicate that news. But our house went on the market two days before the meeting, and it turned out to be impossible for me to attend. After that, everything became a blur. But here we are, in a retirement community, very near our son and his family. We have been here five weeks, and at least there is enough mental and emotional clarity to write this essential letter. Our address is: 110 South Henry Street #601, Madison, WI 53703. I've been a member of NEPTA since Alice Hamlet was president and will sorely miss the meetings and the people I know there. My very best to all.

Sadly,
Jean Alderman

PARKING REMINDER
PARKING METER -COLLEEN CAMPBELL Please be aware that Watertown has restricted parking on the side streets immediately surrounding the First Parish and thus eliminating any "free parking." The metered spots in the parking lot adjacent to the church can accept coins up to a maximum of 8 hours (blue meters only), thereby removing the need to go feed the meter during our meeting breaks, offering instead an opportunity to socialize with NEPTA friends and colleagues.
