Colleen Campbell Dear NEPTA Members,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at NEPTA's first presentation of the New Year. A record January audience came to hear Paul Sheftel who drew from his wide-ranging experience in composition and pedagogy to present many practical suggestions for the teaching studio. He infused his presentation with wisdom and humor. He interwove concepts such as "State of Flow"--"the feeling of ecstacy that comes from learning and teaching." Linda Vieira has provided beautifully written notes capturing a very lively morning.
On February 25 please join us when Sally Pinkas, well-known concert artist and pianist-in-residence at Dartmouth College, will explore "Prelude and Postlude: Recording the music of Gabriel Fauré and Harold Shapero." A review recently acclaimed her "virtuosity, expressive textures and acute insights." It is sure to be a fascinating discussion with exquisite playing. I hope to see you there!

Yours,

Colleen Campbell
President

NEPTA TEACHERS' RECITAL

At Teachers' Recitalthe third Annual Teachers' Recital on Feb. 2, NEPTA pianists, colleagues and friends came together for a glorious evening of music making in beautiful Rivera Hall at the Rivers School in Weston. The concert featured an impressive potpourri of piano solo and chamber works and raised over $600 for the Susan B. Demb Teacher Enrichment Fund. "A wonderful evening...a truly truly diverse program" said Eleanor McLaughlin. "Such powerful talent!" observed Elizabeth Wallace. An elegant reception of wine, cheese, beverages and desserts added to the festivities. Thank you very much to all of the performers who donated their artistry and hours of preparation. Heartfelt thanks go to Irina Gelman, Lindsey Robb, Nancy Burstein, Bert Yocom, Ranko Konishi-Houston, Eric Houston and all those who attended and contributed so generously to making the event a resounding success.

If you were unable to attend but would like to contribute to the Susan B. Demb Teacher Fund, please send your check to Lindsey Robb, Treasurer, 40 Montvale #3, Roslindale, MA 02131.
