CONFERENCE TIME

Greetings!

Spring and summer are almost upon us, and, as President Dave Bishton writes below, the "kick-off" for regional CSI members will be the Regional Conference in Denver in a couple of months. I might note here that the AIA conference as well as the AWWA conference (for some of us engineers) will also be in Denver this year.

I suppose I have attended my share of conferences and I have definitely found that I prefer the face-to-face aspect of a "real" conference as opposed to a video or "virtual" conference. In my opinion, it means a great deal to get to know people individually and to have meaningful dialogs - which can lead to a long-standing and productive professional (or personal) relationship.

Enjoy your next conference, whether it takes you to Denver or someplace equally exciting.

"No grand idea was ever born in a conference, but a lot of foolish ideas have died there." ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald

STRENGTHENING REGIONAL TIES - A SOUTHWEST CELEBRATION

David A. Bishton, RA, CSI, CCS, CCCA

Southwest Region President

The CSI Southwest Region is assembling again, this year in Denver - May 16-18, 2013 - for our annual gathering of CSI members and leaders from across 560,000 square miles of the Southwest USA. This is always a great event, colored uniquely by each chapter host location. In June 2012 we celebrated in Tucson where the chapter hosted a great 3-day leadership and learning event, while arranging for daytime temperatures to stay below 105 or so.

Denver conference

This year we gather in the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Denver - sports, museums, 12 block outdoor retail mall, river walkway, and federal/state buildings highlighted by the gold-leaf dome of the state capitol.

RICHLAND, Wash. - Federal officials are looking to ship some 3 million gallons of radioactive waste from Washington state to New Mexico, giving the government more flexibility to deal with leaking tanks at Hanford Nuclear Reservation, officials said Wednesday.
