Great Turnout Witnesses Impressive Machine Demos, Interesting Technical Talks at OptiPro's Optics Open House & Steakout
PROSurf and UFF A-Cylinder Demo
Frank Wolfs, Research Engineer at OptiPro, explains the features and benefits of PROSurf CAM Software

OptiPro's Optics Open House and Steakout was a major success, as nearly 150 people from optics companies across the U.S. were in attendance! The annual event, which took place from 1:00PM to 9:00PM at OptiPro's 30,000 square-foot facility, featured 14 machines under power demonstrating the latest technology for CNC optical grinding, ultrasonic machining, high speed spherical polishing, sub-aperture polishing, and optical metrology. Among the machine demonstrations was UltraForm Finishing of aspheric cylinders powered by PROSurf, OptiPro's new CAM software for manufacturing freeform optics. This demo showed deterministic polishing of aspheric cylinders and how the features of PROSurf make setting up and running a-cylinders easy and adaptable for manufacturing.

In addition to OptiPro machine demos, nine companies serving the precision optics industry, including manufacturers of grinding tools, slurries, and metrology solutions, showcased the advantages of their products with table top displays and technical presentations.

Robotic arm With OptiPro now providing automation, a robotic arm programmed to hand out sleeves of golf balls was also on display. Ten lucky winners that had the robot retrieve a sleeve found a coupon good for different prizes, including an OptiPro golf shirt, a seat to OptiPro U, $10,000 off the purchase of an OptiPro machine, and an Apple iPad. Special thanks to the original winner of the iPad, Irwin Major of Finkelstein and Co., for generously donating it back to the pool of attendees. We chose another person at random and would like to congratulate Mark Hess of ER Precision Optical for winning the iPad!

The day concluded with a complementary steak dinner and happy hour featuring excellent live music from Acoustic Brew!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2nd annual Optics Open House and Steakout! Click here to check out photos from the event on OptiPro's Facebook page.

Innovation: The "I" in OptiPro (Part 1 of 4)

Reflections from Ron Colavecchia, OptiPro newcomer

OptiPro PRO 80 Series

Part 1 - PRO 80's: Becoming a member of OptiPro Systems in Ontario N.Y. January 2015, I was immersed into a team of diverse people with a wide range of talents. Each day as I walk the factory I am sure to encounter a spirited discussion on new ideas or improvements to an existing product. That's how OptiPro created state of the art novel equipment and metrology solutions for the optics community to enjoy.

The "meat and potatoes" PRO 80 line is a compact but effective series of equipment that was brought to market with OptiPro expertise and user feedback from several premier optics companies. Input from the people creating high precision optics with experience on details of how a machine should work and feel. Input for the small but meaningful details to save time on each process, clear explanation of the user interface, and options to help the user be as effective as possible. Several shops have utilized the PRO 80 GTS, PRO 80P, and PRO 80 UFF for rapid production of prototype optics...
