SpaceClaim Sales Meeting in Boston, MA Showcases New Enhancements to Software
From left to right: Steve Costello (SpaceClaim VP of Sales, Americas), Vince Cannarozzo of OptiPro, and Kevin LeBlanc (SpaceClaim Regional Sales Manager of Eastern US)
SpaceClaim Corporation hosted their annual sales meeting on January 26-28 in Boston, MA. Resellers from across the globe gathered to learn more about new enhancements that have been added to the software and to review SpaceClaim's best applications to help companies become more profitable.

The introduction of the collaboration tool definitely captured the attention of attendees. This new tool, known as SpaceClaim Connect, provides data-secure collaboration with remote colleagues. Connect uses the SpaceClaim system as the brains of a hosted session. Clients are invited in, and have access to the core geometry of the model. SpaceClaim Connect allows companies to improve their workflow in many ways:

  • It is as fast and secure as working on your desktop, the host controls the session and only the host has the model data.
  • It is flexible, because participants can connect to a session from any device in any location with nothing to download, install or save.
  • It is interactive and simultaneous, because every person in the session has access to the same data at the same time. It is a modeling conversation in a 3D environment rather than passing data back and forth or a "show and tell" with only one person accessing the underlying data. There is only one model, seen and shared by everyone concurrently.
The pros at SpaceClaim also discussed the different types of applications that are ideal for the software, including:
  • Manufacturing: Traditional history-based CAD systems are designed for full-time CAD users. On the shop floor, however, these systems can get in the way of getting parts out the door. SpaceClaim takes a different approach, letting you manipulate geometry however you see fit to get on with production with its built-in CAM add-on capabilities and integration with CAM solutions. • Sheet metal: SpaceClaim's sheet metal capabilities are focused on getting parts ready for production. Take just about any format from your customer and turn it into a flat pattern using SpaceClaim's powerful sheet metal environment. Learn more >>
  • Repairing Dirty Geometry: SpaceClaim uses a fast detect-and-repair approach to fixing files, making model repair an easy activity for anyone who needs to work with bad data. SpaceClaim can automatically fix common issues when opening files, and it also provides interactive tools for deeper repairs. For parts that are missing geometry, SpaceClaim's direct modeling technology blends seamlessly with repair tools to reconstruct data. Learn more >>
  • 2D to 3D: SpaceClaim makes it fast and easy to go from 2D to 3D. Whether you only have an image or a sloppy 2D drawing, SpaceClaim lets you work in the context of what you have to get new models made. Learn more >>
With all the impressive capability that SpaceClaim offers, it is no wonder why sales continue to grow year after year. If you haven't experienced the power of SpaceClaim yet, let us show you how the fastest solid modeler available can take your manufacturing productivity to the next level.

Project Lead The Way Leads to First Job and College

Steven Tomeno (left) learned how much he liked machining as a member of the Robotics Team.
As seen in East Irondequoit Central School District's newsletter, The Point - Steven Tomeno thought he was on his way to becoming an engineer. After all, he had taken part in Project Lead the Way at Eastridge (PLTW), an engineering program which can lead to college credit at RIT. Steven was ready to attend MCC for two years and then complete his bachelors at RIT.

But as a member of the Eastridge Robotics team he discovered something else that he enjoyed and was good at, machining; taking the designs that engineers come up with and producing them.

It wasn't until he went to a trade fair at MCC last year that he saw the potential of combining his PLTW knowledge with his love of machining. When a classmate told him about a job opening at OptiPro in Wayne County, Steven applied and was hired. Now he is working at one of the leading manufacturers of optical fabrication equipment in the world and at the same time attending MCC.

"A lot of students don't know what type of engineer they want to become. I wasn't sure when I was taking PLTW classes but I realized you need about two machinists for each engineer."
