Mastercam X7 Test Drive is Live! |
The Mastercam X7 Technology Preview can be downloaded by visiting the Downloads section of the Mastercam.com website under the Support tab or by clicking the following link: X7 Technology Preview Download Page.
What is Mastercam X7 Technology Preview? This is a new privilege that Mastercam has offered to Maintenance customers only. It allows Maintenance customers to "Test Drive" Mastercam X7 before it goes live to the public. Prior to X7, only Beta customers were allowed to run X7 before its official release. By allowing all Maintenance customers to install the Beta version of X7, it is Mastercam's hope that this will lead to additional feedback to make the software even more powerful.
Please read the important information below before installing Mastercam X7 Technology Preview:
- By downloading and using this Beta software, you are agreeing to our Beta terms of use and accepting all risks associated with it.
- With the release of X7, we are dropping support of the Windows XP and Vista operating systems. With X7, we will only install on and support Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems. Windows 7 support will be for both 32-bit and 64-bit. Windows 8 support will be 64-bit only.
- The Technology Preview will not run without active maintenance.
- The Technology Preview will expire on 04/30/13, meaning it will need to be completely uninstalled before installing the release version of X7. The folder structure will also need to be deleted.
- Mastercam X7 does not allow you to save files to a previous version of Mastercam format. Please see the ReadMe.pdf for more information.
- It is only possible to run the Mastercam products currently active on your SIM.
- We encourage users to use the industrial forum on eMastercam.com to discuss this X7 preview. CNC Software staff will be actively interacting on eMastercam.com during the X7 preview providing answers and updates that everyone can see.
- We do expect delays in responding to the feedback so please be patient.
- As this is beta software, part files created with it may not be compatible with the final version of X7.

With Mastercam Multi-Axis, There Are No Limits on Imagination for Bella Design |

Bella Design Custom Furniture and Sculpture, located in Macedon, NY, specializes in designing and building fine art as well as custom furniture and sculpture. The company has an impressive portfolio of complex furniture pieces and fine art sculptures they have developed in the past. Before utilizing CNC machines, the company use to do all sculpture by hand.
"I needed a quicker way to make sculptures with accuracy and repeatability, while having the ability to make changes on the fly," said Lucien Casartelli, professional artist and owner of Bella Design. "I purchased CNC equipment around 8 years ago and, after doing my research, I found that Mastercam would keep me on the cutting edge of technology because of its flexibility. For example, with the Dynamic X Form, I can select the whole part, rotate it, and place it just how I want it. Then, I can create a holding mechanism around it and machine it from there."
For a company like Bella Design that prides itself on artistic ability, no two projects are the same because the company doesn't shy away from any job. Casartelli credits Mastercam for having this level of confidence.
"I don't ever turn down work. Some of the work I take on can be a challenge, but it's all doable with Mastercam. Having Multi-Axis Router makes my life so much easier."
An example of how Mastercam took a complex design and made it a reality took place just last month. Casartelli recently exhibited at Nan Miller Gallery, an art gallery located in Rochester, NY. Because the show was around Valentine's Day, the artist wanted to showcase a special art sculpture (see image above). The peace-of-mind that comes with Mastercam allowed him to fully utilize his creativity.
"Using Mastercam allowed me to imagine without limits, because I knew I would be able to finish virtually any piece with accuracy," said Casartelli. "I started working on this piece about a week before Valentine's Day. I imported the design into Mastercam, where I was able to quickly generate toolpaths for this complex shape. I ran the part on a Thermwood 5-Axis Router shortly after and in one week, I went from a concept in my head to a finished and aesthetically flawless sculpture. There isn't a chance that I would be able to create this piece in one week without Mastercam."
