Industry Says Goodbye to Bill Rosen
William I. Rosen, 91, known to his friends as Bill, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at his home in Tustin, CA, following a long battle with cancer. Bill leaves his second wife, Sousanna, 2 sons, 2 daughters, 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was married to Sonia until her death in 1997. He married Sousanna in 2001, moving to Tustin upon that marriage and living there until his death. READ MORE

MERA Amends Bylaws to Expand Membership
The Board of Directors of the Motor & Equipment Remanufacturers Association (MERA) approved a significant amendment to its bylaws that welcomes members from all remanufacturing industries. The Board of Directors of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) also approved the MERA bylaws change. MERA is the remanufacturing and sustainability division of MEMA. READ MORE

In travels among PEARL meeting and conference locations, it has become evident to me that most dealers of used electrical equipment do not specialize to the exclusion of all other products. Breaker houses always have safety switches, fuses and transformers. They often have elements of motor control and often some larger gear. Motor dealers and Transformer dealers typically can say the same; their primary product usually has some pull through products they buy or at least receive concurrent with that which the dealer was really looking to invest in. The thinking in a typical shop about test equipment is based on the type of work it already does or the type of business it already has. For an electrical service firm, this means the business can grow only incrementally by adding more clients than it loses. For a maintenance shop, this means the maintenance metrics can improve only incrementally. PEARL Launches Brand New Member Database Software, NetForum!
In an effort to offer more value and provide more benefit to PEARL members, the PEARL board of directors approved the implementation of a new membership database software called NetForum. This highly-integrated, multifaceted platform will serve many functions, even for non-members who wish to participate in PEARL-related activities, making it easier, safer, and more reliable than systems used previously. As you go about your business on the website, please notify PEARL headquarters of any troubles or issues you experience on any of the new database pages.

PEARL Sends Out its ANSI Standard for a Second Round of Voting
The second round of balloting has begun for PEARL's ANSI Standard. Sent out to the ballot pool on February 24, the ballot pool will have 45 days to review the newly updated Standard, provide comments, and vote on approving or rejecting the Standard. This is also out for public comment and review, which has a 30 day deadline. After these deadlines, PEARL hopes to be able to have an ANSI-approved Standard to offer to the industry.
