Enter the Guana Cay

Championship NOW & SAVE

Enter the Guana Cay Championship before March 14, 2013 and save $500. The $1,000 BBC membership fee was eliminated this year and all tournament entry fees are now $3,000 per tournament. However, entry fees received less than 30-days prior to the tournament's start are $3,500. So, looking at it from a different angle; enter after March 14^th and pay an additional $500. Either way you look at it, enter NOW and SAVE!

Jim Lambert Memorial Trophy

Veteran Bahamas Billfish Championship sponsors Smith Merritt and International Special Risks have teamed with Travelers to create the Jim Lambert Memorial Trophy. The trophy will be presented annually to the top overall BBC angler for the season.

Jim Lambert was an avid BBC competitor for more than ten years and won the Championship in 1998. As a member of the BBC Steering Committee, Jim was instrumental in establishing the BBC Scholarship Fund and a strong advocate of the BBC's move to time and date stamped digital images to verify the species of released fish.

"The BBC is extremely honored to be able to present this trophy in the memory of someone that, while being a strong believer in teamwork, was himself a tough and dynamic individual competitor," said Al Behrendt, BBC president. Smith Merritt, ISR and Travelers will award a Carey Chen print to the top individual angler at each tournament.

The Jim Lambert Memorial Trophy presentation will take place at the overall awards ceremony at the conclusion of the Marsh Harbour Championship. Behrendt went on to say, "We are extremely thankful to Smith Merritt, ISR and Travelers for their generosity in creating this new award category.

Since the Bahamas Billfish Championship is a team competition, the new Jim Lambert Memorial Trophy gives the individual angler an opportunity to be recognized for his or her outstanding performance throughout the Series."

Special Contest at Guana Cay

Over the years, the Bahamas Billfish Championship has had numerous drink contests to test the 'mixology' prowess of our anglers and crewmembers. This year, everyone fishing the Guana Cay Championship will have an opportunity to participate in a uniquely different drink contest. Jimmy and Melanie Albury at Orchid Bay Yacht Club & Marina are asking for our help in creating and naming a signature drink for the resort's new 'SunSetter' restaurant and deck area.

So on Wednesday at 1800 hours we will begin phase-1 of the contest - creating the SunSetter signature drink. Once the judges have determined a drink winner we will move on to phase-2 - naming the drink. Obviously, you can enter one or both phases of the contest. You may enter a great drink recipe without a name. However, if you want to submit a name make certain that there is a drink entered that reflects the name.

Contest details will be provided at tournament registration on Sunday afternoon. Of course, the contest will take place on SunSetter's deck overlooking the Sea of Abaco while watching a picturesque Abaco sunset.

The artisans at Abaco Gold have been working on a special, custom designed piece to commemorate the Bahamas Billfish Championship's 40^th Anniversary. According to Monica Higgs of Abaco Gold, "We are creating a distinctive ring for the winner of this year's BBC series but wanted to fashion something that everyone, male or female, could have to remember this BBC milestone."

Pictured here is the early work by Abaco Gold's Andrew Pinder on one side of what will eventually be available as a commemorative coin, pendant, key chain or money clip. This side shows the BBC's adaption of The Bahamas crest. The other side will have the BBC's 40^th anniversary logo.

A sample pendant will be available at the Guana Cay Championship.
