Conference Attracts Experts in Juvenile Justice

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Coalition for Juvenile Justice hosted the 8th Annual Models for Change National Working Conference in Washington, D.C. on December 16-17, 2013.  An invitation-only event, the conference brought together juvenile justice leaders and practitioners from across the country to share cutting-edge advancements in the field.  This year's event showcased ways to extend and build on the Models for Change legacy and was the official launch of the Resource Center Partnership, which includes our Robert F. Kennedy National Resource Center for Juvenile Justice.

Led by RFK Children's Action Corps, the RFK National Resource Center for Juvenile Justice uses established models of reform to support local and state jurisdictions seeking to improve system performance and outcomes for youth involved with the juvenile justice system.  John Tuell, Executive Director, and Jessica Heldman, Associate Executive Director, presented in two of the conference workshops.

DDAP Programs Awarded for Success

In recognition of the ongoing work and achievement of its Detention Diversion Advocacy Project (DDAP) programs, RFK Children's Action Corps has recently received funding from multiple sources:

As a result of the proven impact of our DDAP Dorchester program, we have been awarded $3500 from the District Attorney of Suffolk County Daniel F. Conley's Asset Forfeiture Community Reinvestment Program to support our efforts in this area.

The agency is pleased to announce that it will also continue to receive significant funding through EOPSS (Executive Office of Public Safety and Security), a government grant providing $70,000 for DDAP Dorchester through September and $95,000 for DDAP Hampden County through May of 2015, the latter in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services.

A voluntary alternative to court-ordered detention, DDAP strives to reduce the disproportionate number of minority youth arraigned through the court system.
