New Funding Makes Impact at EWT School

Thanks to a $2,300 mini-grant from the

Massachusetts Alliance on Teen Pregnancy, teens from Holyoke and Springfield had access to information on healthy choices and lifestyles from a variety of service providers at our EWT School's Youth First Concert held last week.  For more information on this project, click here.

Additionally, the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts awarded EWT School $8,000 to expand its after school programming through a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Holyoke (HB&GC). The After-school Music Program will serve a population of youth who are not consistent in attending typical after-school programs by focusing on music to attract and keep their interest.  The program will provide high quality academic and arts programming to enhance students' academic, social, and emotional well-being.

RFK Youth Stand Up To Bullying

School bullying statistics in the United States show that about one in four kids in the U.S. are bullied on a regular basis.  Our Youth in Progress program, a community based program that helps teenagers with their transition to adulthood, advocates strongly for inclusion and anti-bullying.  The teens in the program created this video to showcase their message and to stand up against bullying.  Check it out!

Bullying is Whack.

Charles Shaughnessy Visits The Fay A. Rotenberg School

RFK Children's Action Corps' Advisory Council member Charlie Shaughnessy visited the Fay A. Rotenberg School this Fall and spent time with the girls, getting to know them and also working with them on expressing themselves through acting workshops. The girls prepared for his visit by working on individual pieces and performed them for Charlie and perfected them with his help.  We are so thankful for Charlie's continued engagement with our students.  For videos of Charlie from the visit, click here.
Our Supporters in Action
A Spotlight on: Jay Gregory and Team LeClair Ryan

LeClair Ryan

On September 29, the Rodman Ride for Kids sent over 1,000 riders on to the roads of Southeastern, MA to support at-risk children throughout the state. The day was a huge success. Despite some drizzle in the morning, our riders persevered and finished strong!

One rider in particular came out with gusto this year.  Jay Gregory, captain of LeClair Ryan Team, has been participating in the Rodman Ride for Kids for over ten years.  In 2007, he carried the torch from previous teams to LeClair Ryan and has captained the team ever since raising over $25,000 to support the children in our programs.

This year, Jay championed his team to raise a goal-breaking $10,000!  When asked how he found such success this year, Jay simply said, "I have nothing special to impart about fundraising.  It's all about reaching out to as many people as possible and knowing that you're doing them a favor by giving them an opportunity to exercise their generosity in support of a great cause."  Needless to say, Jay did many friends and family favors this year, and by doing so made a huge impact on the lives of kids.

We are so grateful to have riders like Jay and many others that go above and beyond for the kids in our care.  The Rodman Ride for Kids will raise over $9 million for youth-serving organizations in the Commonwealth, including the Robert F. Kennedy Children's Action Corps.

We still have work to do to reach our $300,000 Finish Line Goal! To see how you can help visit our Team page and check out photos from the event on our Facebook page.

PeaceLove Brings Paint4Peace Back to RFK

Thanks to everyone who purchased an Art Tee

P4P Pct 2012

this past August, this week, PeaceLove Studios came back to our Lancaster School to share their message of hope and understanding around mental wellness with our students.

They inspired peace of mind within our kids and let their creativity shine through. Check out the kids artwork and photos from the day in our photo album.

Over 200 kids will experience the healing power of art through the Paint4Peace workshops thanks to everyone who purchased Art Tees.

Make Winter Wishes Come True!

You can change the life of a child this holiday season. Help us grant holiday wishes for the kids at the RFK Children's Action Corps by participating in this year's Winter Wish gift drive. Our goal is to provide all of the boys and girls in our care with at least one gift.

There are also great opportunities for corporations to get involved! To find out more click here.

RFK Students Speak Out through Writing Contest

Thanks to an idea from Jen Griffith, clinical coordinator at the RFK Lancaster Residential Treatment Campus, students across the Agency had the opportunity to participate in a writing contest to have their work displayed in Kids Corner, a new section of our website dedicated to showcasing various projects by the students in our care.

Students were invited to respond to three questions: why or what do you like about school, who do you look up to or who inspires you?

Each month we will be announcing the winning selection on Facebook and sharing the full piece on our website under Kids Corner. Below is an excerpt from the first month's winner, Asha, a student at our EWT School. Congratulations Asha!

"Hira [my sister] is my hero in a lot of ways, because she never has anything bad to say to anyone, she's always able to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Hira is a smart, intelligent young adult that has taught me how to stand up for myself, and to do what I believe in. My sister has been there every step of the way of my life, and
has taught me to become a better person, and sibling."
Children Deserve Better.
