RU New Jersey Medical School Dean Discusses, Praises Merger

Dr. Robert Johnson, the dean of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, in Newark, has served as a dean at the school since 2005, when it was called UMDNJ. A graduate of the school, he recently discussed the 2013 merger of UMDNJ and Rutgers University in regard to research and innovation and its impact on New Jersey. Dean Johnson had been associated with UMNDJ for much of his life. And he's the first to admit that when he heard the school was merging with Rutgers University, he didn't think it would make much of a difference - other than changing a few signs. Rutgers University-Camden Appoints Civic Engagement Leader
 

Nyeema Watson has been selected as assistant chancellor for civic engagement at Rutgers University-Camden, where she will lead the university's community and service initiatives. Watson had been serving in an interim capacity during the past year and throughout the search process. A Camden resident and Rutgers-Camden graduate, Watson was director of public school partnerships for the Rutgers-Camden Office of Civic Engagement during 2010 to 2014. In this role, she forged strong partnerships between Rutgers and Camden's public, charter, and non-public schools and took on a leadership role in developing initiatives focused on student academic achievement and enrichment; college access; expanded learning; and professional development, among other areas. Call for Hall of Distinguished Alumni Award Nominations
The Rutgers University Alumni Association is accepting nominations for the 2016 Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni, the highest honor the university bestows upon alumni. Past recipients include U.S. women's soccer star and World Cup champion Carli Lloyd RC'06, chef and restauranteur Mario Batali RC'82, the late actor James Gandolfini RC'83, author Janet Evanovich DC'65, and actor and humanitarian Paul Robeson RC'19. The Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni was created in 1987 to recognize alumni who, through their remarkable achievements in professional and civic life, have brought honor to themselves and the university.
