In Memoriam: Charles Preston Whitlock

Charles Preston Whitlock, 95, father-in-law of the Rutgers University-Newark 2015 commencement speaker Earl Lewis, Rutgers alumnus and distinguished veteran of WWII died recently after a brief illness.

A 1941 graduate of Rutgers University, where he earned Phi Beta Kappa and Best Soldier in the ROTC program, Whitlock spent his entire post-war career at Harvard University.

Chancellor's Seed Grants Awarded

Rutgers University-Newark has announced more than $4 million in seed grants under the Chancellor's Seed Grant Program, which is more than double the $2 million projected in the competition's original request for proposals.  

 

Designed to cultivate sustainable projects that advance the priorities articulated in RU-Newark's strategic plan, the competition yielded more than 50 individual awards to schools, institutes, centers and administrative offices. More here.  

 


Nursing Student Creates Disaster Preparedness Resource for Peers

Last December, two years after the deadliest typhoon to hit the Philippines in modern history ravaged the island nation, Rutgers University-Camden student Joseph Valenzuela traveled with his father to the Philippines, where many of his family members reside.  

 

There, he saw a country still dealing with the effects of Typhoon Haiyan, and Valenzuela wanted to do something to help. More here.
