With a new library director and the new building project coming up, there isn't a more exciting time to get involved!
Thanks for supporting the Marion Library with your membership in our Friends group!

The Friends Board would like to encourage you to get involved in other ways. One of the best ways to show your support is to join the Board.

You already know our Friends group supports the library financially by funding many projects and programs that would be otherwise unavailable. A couple of the ways we raise money include our bookstore (located in the library lobby) and our semi-annual book sales (the next one is during Marion Arts Festival Weekend, May 20-22).

We provide the Friends Home Book Program, which allows homebound Marion residents to check out library books by mail at no cost. We pay the fees for many of the library's programs for adults and seniors, including speakers, adult arts programs, and summer reading.

The library administration and Board of Trustees has asked for the input of the Friends board on the design of the new library building, and on the candidates for the new director.

If you might be interested in a Board position, here's what we ask:
  • You should have an appreciation for the Marion Public Library and its role in the community and metro area.
  • You should be able to attend monthly meetings; these take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month (December excepted), from 6:45 to about 8:00.
  • You should be willing to participate in one or more of our several volunteer opportunities, such as sorting books for the bookstore and book sales, scanning donations, recycling unusable books, working in the bookstore, working at the book sales, or planning programs.
  • You should be interested in providing thoughtful input on various board and library topics.
My wife JoAnn and I are approaching nine years with this great group, and we have enjoyed every minute; please consider joining.

If you might be interested, contact the Friends board president, Bob Hoyt, at bhoyt@speedconnect.com, or board member Taylor Nelson at taylorgnelson@yahoo.com.
We look forward to welcoming you!
