Anime Club: Special Craft!
Monday, October 5, 4 - 5:30 p.m.
Join us in Meeting Room A every month to hang out with other people who love anime as we watch shows and eat Japanese snacks.

This month Joyce Pencook will be joining us to teach a little cross-stitch while we watch. Learn a new art form to show off your fandom by making a fun onigiri cross-stitch design!

And for another special treat, stay until the end to enter a drawing for a bento box set!

Anime Club meets the first Monday of each month. Mark your calendars for the next meeting on November 2!
Redesign a Book Cover Contest
Entries accepted October 18 - 24
You know the ones, those books with covers that look so great, then you read them and think . . . what?! Or the book all your friends are raving about, then you see the cover and think . . . meh.

Here's your chance to set things straight. Pick a favorite book (or even one you hate) and create a cover that really represents the book inside.

Submit your entry to the Information Desk during Teen Read Week, October 18 - 24. We'll judge the week after and award the winner a prize of art materials plus a surprise gift card. Find the rules below.

Contest Rules
  1. Open to anyone in 6th - 12th grades
  2. The book has to be a Young Adult book (if you're not sure your choice is YA, ask Cressant)
  3. Submit your art with your name, grade, and phone number on the back
  4. One submission per person
  5. Art in any form is allowed (consider drawing, painting, collage, digital . . .). But keep it book-cover-sized. No 6-foot  murals, please. If you have digital art, email it to Cressant or drop it off on a CD or flash drive at the Information Desk. Make sure it's in a jpg or other format we can open!
  6. Judging will be based on overall creativity and how well the cover expresses the book it represents
  7. All art will be displayed in the Teen area for two weeks after the contest; it will then be available to pick up at the Information Desk

You can also find these rules, plus the announcement of the winner on the library's website.
Game Day!
Tuesday, October 20, 3:30 - 5 p.m.
Stop by after school to play video games and board games in Meeting Room A. We've got Mario Kart, Minecraft, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Dance Central, Guitar Hero, Twister, Apples to Apples, and lots more!

Do you play Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic the Gathering, or another card game? Bring your friends and stake out a corner of the room for an epic game.

Help Design the New Library!
Here's your chance to let us know what you think the new library--and especially the Teen area!--need to look like. What do you want your new space to do? How should it feel? Cozy? Edgy? Decorated in a Doctor Who theme? (Ok, that probably won't happen, sorry.)

The tentative date for the next public input meeting is Thursday, October 29 at 5:15 p.m. Plan to bring your best and craziest ideas to Meeting Room A then, but check out the Inspire webpage for the lastest news before you come.

Get more information about the public input sessions and the building project at marionpubliclibrary.org/inspire.

Minecraft Will Return!
We're taking a break while we figure out some technical issues. Watch the newsletters and the library's website for the next event announcement!

Check out the display in the Teen area or reserve one of our picks below. Find even more suggestions on the Teen Reads section on the library's website.

Book a Trip:
Year-Round Reading Program

This all-ages reading program couldn't be easier: just pick up a log and start reading. Check off each state as you read a book that either takes place in that state, is about that state, or is by an author who is from that state. You can read fiction or non-fiction. We've got suggested books for each state, or pick out your own!

As you check off each state, get a dot at the Information Desk to mark your progress on our map. When you've read a book from all 50 states, pick up a special prize! Find more information on the Book a Trip page on our website.
