Teen Tech Week: Learn to Code with Scratch
Monday, March 16, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Learn to make computer games, animations, and artwork using Scratch, a computer language that works like puzzle pieces. It's easy and fun, but it's also a great way to get started if you're interested in computer programming. Join us on Monday during spring break to get started with Scratch. Have your own laptop you want to bring? That's great; we'll help you get set up so you can keep going at home. Or you can continue online. One of the best things about Scratch is that there's a whole online community where you can create and save and share your creations. To see what other people have made with Scratch, check out some example projects.

Sound like fun? Register now to reserve your spot! There's limited space, so sign up soon!

Anime Club
Monday, March 2, 4 - 5:30 p.m.

Join us every month in Meeting Room A to hang out with other people who love anime as we watch shows and eat Japanese snacks. If you have your own anime-style or manga artwork, bring it to show off!

Anime Club meets the first Monday of each month. Mark your calendars for the next meeting on April 6!

Game Day!
Wednesday, March 18, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

No school for the week, so stop by on Wednesday to play video games and board games in Meeting Room A. We've got Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Dance Central, Guitar Hero, Twister, Apples to Apples, and lots more!

Do you play Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic the Gathering, or another card game? Bring your friends and stake out a corner of the room for an epic game.

Not off school that week? Come whenever you can. We'll be here until 4:30.

New Award Books!

The American Library Association has announced new award books for 2015! If you're looking for something new to read, check out the updated Printz Award books, honored for excellence in teen fiction.

Starting to feel like you're outgrowing the YA section a little, or just looking for a new challenge? Try the Alex Awards, a list of adult books that are also great for teens.

And check out the Teen area for our display of Rainbow List Books, suggested fiction and non-fiction that has GLBTQ characters.

Don't forget about the permanent display of award books in the corner of the Teen area next to the magazines. We've got the Teens' Top Ten, voted on by teens all across the country; we've also got the Iowa Teen Award (middle school) and Iowa High School Book Award nominees on display!

Want even more award books? Check out the complete list of American Library Association awards for kids and teens.

Book a Trip:
All Ages Reading Program

This year-round reading program couldn't be easier: just pick up a log and start reading. Check off each state as you read a book that either takes place in that state, is about that state, or is by an author who is from that state. You can read fiction or non-fiction. We've got suggested books for each state, or pick out your own!

As you check off each state, get a dot at the Information Desk to mark your progress on our map. When you've read a book from all 50 states, pick up a special prize! Find more information on the Book a Trip page on our website.
