Take a Reading Road Trip This Winter!
Winter Reading starts January 5

Have you had a chance to Book a Trip yet? Whether you have or not, get ready for double the fun this winter! Read books from states around the country to earn prize tickets for the Teen Winter Reading program, and mark them off on your Book a Trip reading log (pdf)!

Sign up for the Reading Road Trip Winter Reading Program at marionpubliclibrary.org/teens
starting January 5. Pick up your reading log at the Information Desk and start crossing off bingo squares to get Grand Prize tickets. A blackout gets a free book!

And what's Book a Trip? It's an all-ages, year-round reading program, where you read a book for each state--either about that state or by an author from that state--and mark your place on our giant map. When you finish all 50 states you'll get a themed luggage tag--ready for your real-life trips--and a surprise gift card. There's no time limit on Book a Trip, but the Reading Road Trip will give you a good start! Need some ideas? Check out Book a Trip suggestions. And there are plenty of other reading suggestions at our Teen Reads page--or try the links below!

Anime Clubanime
Monday, January 5, 4 - 5:30 p.m.

Join us every month in Meeting Room A to hang out with other people who love anime as we watch shows and eat Japanese snacks. If you have your own anime-style or manga artwork, bring it to show off!

Anime Club meets the first Monday of each month. Mark your calendars for the next meeting on February 2!

Early Out Game Day
Wednesday, January 14, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Stop by after school to play video games and board games in Meeting Room A. We've got Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Dance Central, Guitar Hero, Twister, Apples to Apples, and lots more!

Do you play Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic the Gathering, or another card game? Bring your friends and stake out a corner of the room for an epic game.

Don't get off school early that day? Come whenever you can. We'll be here until 4:30.

Drop-In Map Craft
Tuesday, January 27, 3:30 - 5 p.m.

Gear up for the Reading Road Trip by making your own map crafts. Fold a notebook or a wallet from an old map, and make a magnet featuring your favorite place! Drop in any time between 3:30 and 5.

Winter Birding
Wednesday, January 7, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Jan Aiels, Education Director and Senior Naturalist at the Indian Creek Nature Center, presents this timely, family-friendly program on winter birding that will engage kids as well as adults. She'll talk about winter bird feeding and watching, who stays, who goes, adaptations birds have to survive the cold, and fun facts about the various birds that we see at feeders. There will be a simple pine cone bird feeder craft for everyone to take home!

What Would You Say to Your Favorite Author?

Last deadline January 15

The Letters About Literature contest wants to know. To enter, write a letter to an author (living or dead!) where you talk about a fiction, non-fiction, play, or poetry book that had a big impact on you. But don't mail it to the author! Send it to The Center for the Book at the Library of Congress, where it will be entered into a contest for cash prizes! This yearly contest starts with winners in each state, who then compete at the national level.
