Barnes and Noble Bookfair
Saturday, November 29, at the Cedar Rapids store
November 29 - December 4, at bn.com

Planning on doing some Christmas shopping this year? Include us in your plans! Mention Marion Public Library as you check out at Barnes & Noble on November 29, and we get a percentage of the sale!

Visit your favorite librarians at our table morning or afternoon on the 29th. Need some ideas for gift-giving (or just yourself)? Ask us for book recommendations! Also, we'll be gift-wrapping for free after 4 p.m. (Donations are appreciated!)

Or if you're shopping online during the week of November 29 - December 4, visit bn.com and enter Bookfair ID 11455698 to make a donation that costs you nothing at all.

At the checkout screen, go to the Payment section and select Change.

Scroll all the way to the bottom of that page and check the box that says "this is a Bookfair Order."

Insert our Bookfair ID 11455698.

You get brand-new books, and we get donations from B&N that let us buy awesome reading program prizes like Nook tablets. Everybody wins!

THANK YOU for supporting your library!
Anime Clubanime
Monday, December 1, 4 - 5:30 p.m.

Join us every month in Meeting Room A to hang out with other people who love anime as we watch shows and eat Japanese snacks. If you have your own anime-style or manga artwork, bring it to show off!

Anime Club meets the first Monday of each month. Mark your calendars for the next meeting on January 5!

Christmas in the Park
Friday, December 5, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.

We'll have books on sale in the lobby from 4:00 - 7:00 from Scholastic and our very own Friends Bookstore, as well as a fabulous tuba ensemble from 6:00 - 6:30. You can also make a cinnamon-scented tree ornament from 5:00 - 7:00 if you like!

It's all part of the Christmas in the Park celebration in uptown Marion. Plus the Peppermint Walk! Find out more information about the event on the City of Marion website.

Early Out Game Day
with Bonus Ornament Craft
Wednesday, December 10, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Stop by after school to play video games and board games in Meeting Room A. We've got Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Dance Central, Guitar Hero, Twister, Apples to Apples, and lots more!

Do you play Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic the Gathering, or another card game? Bring your friends and stake out a corner of the room for an epic game.

As a bonus for the December Game Day, we'll also have a table where you can make ornaments out of recycled books.

Don't get off school early that day? Come whenever you can. We'll be here until 4:30.

What Would You Say to Your Favorite Author?

First deadline December 15

The Letters About Literature contest wants to know. To enter, write a letter to an author (living or dead!) where you talk about a fiction, non-fiction, play, or poetry book that had a big impact on you. But don't mail it to the author! Send it to The Center for the Book at the Library of Congress, where it will be entered into a contest for cash prizes! This yearly contest starts with winners in each state, who then compete at the national level.

Anyone in grades 4 - 12 can enter the contest. The deadlines for each age group are:

High school, grades 9-12

December 15, 2014

Middle School and younger, grades 4 - 8

January 15, 2015

Visit
read.gov/letters for more information and examples of previous winners and download the rules and entry form (pdf).

Good luck! Let us know if you win!
