"Harvey" with Jimmy Stewart

Movie Monday: Classics, Coffee, & Donuts
Monday, November 17   10:00 a.m.

Do you love the old classic movies? Want to share your love with others over coffee and donuts? Join us for Movie Monday: Classics, Coffee, & Donuts.

On the 3rd Monday morning of each month, we'll show a classic film and provide coffee, water, and donuts. This month is "Harvey" with Jimmy Stewart!

We encourage you to stay afterwards to talk about the film and spend a little time socializing; we'll provide a few discussion questions and offer a small display of related books to check out each month.

Marion Repurpose Club
Reading Repurposed
Tuesday, November 18    6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

The Marion Repurpose Club meets monthly.

In November, our theme is Reading Repurposed and you will be creating wreaths from recycled books!  This fun intergenerational crafting and repurposing evening is offered by Habitat for Humanity's ReStore staff.

Yvette and Deb bring their enthusiasm and creativity to the Marion Library, along with all the stuff you need to repurpose leftovers, bits, and pieces into cool and unique things that you can really use.

Because of our space constraints, and to help Deb and Yvette know how many supplies to bring, registration is required.

There is a small materials fee ($5/adult, $3/under 16) which may be paid at the program. (Proceeds from the class go toward Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity Restore: Building Homes for Those in Need. No refunds please.)

Stampin' Up Drop-in Workshop
Saturday, November 22   11:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Come join stamper Nancy Kee at our monthly drop-in Stampin' Up workshops. She will show you some of her favorite techniques. From the Big Shot, to the envelope board, to some unique Framelits, these hands-on workshops will teach you how to create projects and cards. She will have cards, boxes, and tags to make-and-take.

Use the Big Shot to see how the embossing folders and Framelits work (and take home your samples).

All ages are welcome; children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Stop in any time between 11:00 and 4:00. Nancy is an independent demonstrator for Stampin' Up..

Barnes and Noble Bookfair
Saturday, November 29

Planning on doing some Christmas shopping this year? Include us in your plans! Mention Marion Public Library as you check out at Barnes & Noble on November 29, and we get a percentage of the sale! It doesn't cost you a thing.

Visit your favorite librarians at our table morning or afternoon on the 29th. Need some ideas for gift-giving (or just for yourself)? Ask us for book recommendations. Also, our Friends group will be gift-wrapping for free.

The library is still looking for volunteers to help make our Book Fair a success. If you are a library supporter (and who isn't?) and could spare some time on the 29th to help us out, please email Olivia at
ostoner@cityofmarion.org.

Or if you're shopping online during the week of November 29 - December 4, visit bn.com and enter Bookfair ID 11455698 to make a donation that costs you nothing at all.

At the checkout screen, go the Payment section and select Change.

Scroll all the way to the bottom of that page and check the box that says
"this is a Bookfair Order."

Insert our Bookfair ID 11455698.

You get brand-new books, and we get donations from B&N that let us buy awesome reading program prizes like Nook tablets. Everybody wins!

THANK YOU for supporting your library!

Come Try Our New Reading Program for All Ages: Book a Trip

Book a Trip with us at the library! This year-round reading program couldn't be easier: we have logs with maps available for everyone, and all you have to do is read books.

Fill in the book title for each state on your Book a Trip log as you read a book that either takes place in that state, is about that state, or is by an author who is from that state. Read fiction or non-fiction.

We've provided lists of suggested titles at our website for kids, teens, and adults - but you're welcome to choose your own titles, too! When you've read a book from all 50 states, come to the Children's Desk or Information Desk for a special prize!

We have a huge map of the United States here at the library, and when you check off a state on your reading log, you can come in and get a colored dot from one of our friendly staff, then go put it on the state you've just finished!

We can all have fun watching as Marion Library readers read their way across America!

There's no deadline, so take as long as you want.

Weigh In On Marion's Future!
Deadline November 21st
Marion is working to create a unified vision for the community; a vision that will bring new business and investment to the area, grow tourism and visitor spending, increase business revenues, and drive Marion's future.

The next step as we work to identify what sets Marion apart from other communities is to
gather community feedback. Please take a moment to complete the nine question online survey at bit.ly/brand-marion and invite your friends and neighbors - both in and out of the Marion area - to do the same.

Deadline for completing the branding survey is November 21. Thanks for caring about your community!
