Book a Trip Across America!
All Ages Reading Program
Begins September 2nd
Book a Trip with us at the library beginning September 2! This year-round reading program couldn't be easier: we'll have logs with maps available for everyone, and all you have to do is read books. Check off each state as you read a book that either takes place in that state, is about that state, or is by an author who is from that state. Read fiction or non-fiction. We'll provide lists of suggested titles for kids, teens, and adults, but you can pick your own titles, too!
We'll have a huge map of the United States here at the library, and when you check off a state on your reading log, you can come in and get a colored dot from one of our friendly staff, then go put it on the state you've just finished! We can all have fun watching as Marion Library readers read their way across the USA!

Story Time Is Back!
This season, our story time themes are going to focus on the alphabet and learning our letters. Each week, we're going to present a letter of the alphabet and provide stories, songs, and activities to go along with that letter. Check our calendar and website for each week's theme, and bring your little ones for a fun (and sneakily educational) story time.

Wednesday, September 24th at 6:30 p.m.
Bring your kids of all ages and join us for fun and relaxing Bedtime Yoga. We'll read a story, play games, sing songs, and do poses that will get you all ready to fall asleep. Children see the adults doing the poses, and then learn how to do it themselves. There's no forcing or trying to be perfect. It's all about getting involved at each child's level. Children must be accompanied by their parent or caregiver. Wear comfy clothes and bring a yoga mat or a towel and a water bottle for each person.

Promote Fair Housing and Win Money for College!
Deadline: September 29th
The Civil Rights Commission of Cedar Rapids and Marion is sponsoring a poster contest for anyone ages 5-18. The theme is "A Face for Fairness: Housing for All," so your poster needs to show the importance of being able to live where you want without being discriminated against. The library has packets explaining the rules at the Information Desk, or you can find the same information online.
So what can you win? The link above has more information, but you could win a college fund worth up to $600!
Oh, and there's also a video contest for adults with a cash prize, so pass the word! The deadline for both contests is September 29.
