Book a Trip Across America:
All Ages Reading Program
Begins Tuesday, September 2

Book a Trip with us at the library beginning September 2! This year-round reading program couldn't be easier: we'll have logs with maps available for everyone, and all you have to do is read books. Check off each state as you read a book that either takes place in that state, is about that state, or is by an author who is from that state. Read fiction or non-fiction.
We'll provide lists of suggested titles for kids, teens, and adults, but you can pick your own titles, too!

We'll have a huge map of the United States here at the library, and when you check off a state on your reading log, you can come in and get a colored dot from one of our friendly staff, then go put it on the state you've just finished! We can all have fun watching as Marion Library readers read their way across the USA!

Anime Clubanime
Monday, September 8, 4 - 5:30 p.m.
(second Monday because of Labor Day)

Join us every month in Meeting Room A to hang out with other people who love anime as we watch shows and eat Japanese snacks. If you have your own anime-style or manga artwork, bring it to show off!

Anime Club meets the first Monday of each month throughout the year. Mark your calendars for the next meeting on October 6!

Marion RePurpose Club
Tuesday, September 23, 6 - 8 p.m.

The Marion RePurpose Club meets monthly on the third Tuesday (September will be on the fourth Tuesday).

This month we'll be making mosaic bottles!

This fun intergenerational crafting and repurposing evening is offered by Habitat for Humanity's ReStore staff. Yvette and Deb bring their fun and creativity to the Marion Library, along with all the stuff you need to repurpose leftovers, bits, and pieces into cool and unique things that you can really use.

Because of our space constraints, and to help Deb and Yvette know how many supplies to bring, registration is required.

There is a small materials fee ($5/adult, $3/under 16) which may be paid at the program.

Vote for the Teens' Top Ten!

Let your voice be heard by voting for the national Teens' Top Ten list! Vote at YALSA's Reads4Teens website through October 11. Find the nominated books on the display in the Teen area, or reserve them from the Teens' Top Ten list at the library's Teen Reads website.

Promote Fair Housing and Win Money for College!

Deadline: September 29

The Civil Rights Commission of Cedar Rapids and Marion is sponsoring a poster contest for anyone ages 5 - 18. The theme is "A Face for Fairness: Housing for All," so your poster needs to show the importance of being able to live where you want without being discriminated against. The library has packets explaining the rules at the Information Desk, or you can find the same information online.

So what can you win? The link above has more information, but you could win a college fund worth up to $600!

Please note: Your posters have to be submitted to the Civil Rights Commission, not to the library!

Oh, and there's also a video contest for adults with a cash prize, so pass the word!

The deadline for both contests is September 29.
