It's Not Too Late! Register Now for Teen Summer Reading!

Ending July 25!

The Teen Summer Reading Program, for teens going into 6th - 12th grades, doesn't end until July 25, so you have plenty of time to read for fun and prizes! This year's theme is Spark a Reaction, so we're going to focus on science by conducting experiments, combining art and chemistry, art and biology, and creating edible science with Cooking Capers. We'll also have events every Thursday, whether it's a movie, Lego Club, or a Game Day. Complete list of events. Don't forget to sign up for the final party at the Marion Pool!

And of course, there's reading for everyone! Sign up online for the Summer Reading Program and stop at the Information Desk to pick up your reading log. For every 10 hours you read this summer, you get a Grand Prize Ticket and a pick from the prize basket. At 100 hours, you get to pick a free book. Reading logs are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 25. More details in the reading log.

Need some ideas on what to read? Check out the special summer lists on the Teen Reads page.

Anime Clubanime
Monday, July 7, 4 - 5:30 p.m.

Join us every month in Meeting Room A to hang out with other people who love anime as we watch shows and eat Japanese snacks. If you have your own anime-style or manga artwork, bring it to show off!

Anime Club meets the first Monday of each month throughout the year. Mark your calendars for the next meeting on August 4!

Squishy Circuits Experiments
Tuesday, June 24, 3:30 - 5 p.m.

With the right ingredients, playdough can conduct electricity! Experiment with a variety of circuits to make LEDs light and buzzers sound. No registration necessary.

Foliage, Fibonacci & Fine Art
Tuesday, July 22, 3:30 - 5 p.m.

More than just a nifty little math trick, Leonardo Fibonacci discovered that the "Golden Ratio" was absolutely everywhere in nature... the spiral in a seashell, the number of seeds in a sunflower, or the star created when slicing an apple in half, etc. You will also find it in most art masterpieces like the Mona Lisa. This ratio, also known as Fibonacci's sequence, is the basis of today's art project, so get ready for a mathematically artistic scavenger hunt and create your own masterpiece! Presented by the Cedar Rapids Art Museum.

Some Events Are Full!

There's lots of enthusiasm for the teen programs this summer! But that means some of the events that require pre-registration are full already. You can still sign up to be on the waiting lists if you want, just click on each program.

If you signed up for any of the following events, please let us know if you can't come so we can let someone on the waiting lists take your place. You can also call Cressant at 743-1981 if you have any questions.
