November is National Novel Writing Month!

Are you in the mood for a 50,000-word, month-long writing sprint?!
What you can do:
- Write the novel you've been dreaming of in 30 days. (Or at least get a good start.)
- If you're 17 or under you can sign up at ywp.nanowrimo.org and pick your word count goal. Find suggestions at ywp.nanowrimo.org/wordcount.
- Or if you're 13 or older, you can sign up for the 50,000 word challenge at nanowrimo.org.
How the library can help: - Join other writers of all ages for Write-Ins each Saturday in November, 2 - 4 p.m. in the Conference Room.
- Check out the NaNoWriMo display in the Teen area for books about writing, as well as plot and character workbooks to help you get started.
- Free computers and wifi! Remember, if you use one of our computers you'll need your own flash drive or webspace to save your work.
- Tables and chairs and outlets--and study rooms! Claim a space to plug in your laptop or pick up your pen and get an hour or so of writing in after school.
Need a little more inspiration? Here's a list of authors who wrote their novels during NaNoWriMo and got them published! Check out the books in the Teen area display too.

Anime Club

Monday, November 4, 4 - 5:30 p.m.
Join us every month in Meeting Room A to hang out with other people who love anime as we watch shows and eat Japanese snacks. If you have your own anime-style or manga artwork, bring it to show off!
Anime Club meets the first Monday of each month throughout the year. Mark your calendars for the next meeting, December 9.
|
Lego Club

Thursday, November 14, 3 - 5 p.m.
(No Lego Club on November 28 or December 26 due to the holidays)
Build with our stash of Legos twice per month, on the second and fourth Thursdays.
Thanks to all the generous people who donated Legos! Would you like to donate? We'd be glad to take them and share the Lego love!

International Games Day

Saturday, November 16, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Celebrate International Games Day with hundreds of libraries across the country and around the world, because gaming is educational (shh, don't tell anyone).
Play Yu-Gi-Oh! and find other players in the area; the meeting room will be open all day long. We'll have a Yu-Gi-Oh! expert doing three demonstration sessions at 10:00, 12:00 and 2:00, so stop by and pick up some tips to improve your game. Or, this is your chance if you've always wanted to learn.
Join in a world-wide game of Telephone (aka Global Gossip)! We'll get the secret message whispered to us sometime during the day, and we'll pass it on to you. Then we'll call another library across the country and pass on our own version of the secret phrase. For some hilarious reading, check out the transcript from last year.
Play board games, including new games Tapple and Cross Ways. The meeting room will be open all day, so try a new game or play an old favorite. Game on!

Teen Writers

Thursday, November 21, 3:30 - 5 p.m.
Do you love to write or want to learn while hanging out with other teen writers? This is the place to be! What can you write? Anything you want. Poetry, a zombie romance, your life story as told by your dog, whatever. Share your stories and poetry, ask for feedback, and get ideas. Need a kick in the butt to keep the words flowing? That's what writing buddies are for. Teen Writers meets on the third Thursday of each month in the Conference Room at 3:30 p.m. Open to grades 6-12.
