Read to a Dog!
| NEW DAY AND TIME!
Sunday, September 22 between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m.
Bring your kids to read to our Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) to grow their skills, confidence, and love of reading! The dogs represent a variety of breeds, colors and sizes, but all are registered therapy dogs who are patient, friendly and are good listeners. Dogs don't care about a reader's abilities, help kids relax and offer a new setting for practicing to read aloud. Research and anecdotal evidence show that children can improve their reading skills and confidence by reading to a dog. And it's fun! "Researchers in the US found that reading to dogs helped children improve their fluency by up to 30 per cent." (full article)

Library Card Sign-Up Month-WIN A NOOK!
September 1-September 30
It's library card sign-up month, and we're celebrating library cards all month with drawings for three Nook Tablets. There has never been a better time to get yourself and your kids older than 5 a library card than right now. Each family member can sign up no more than one time each day throughout September. Each person must have a valid library card with fines below $20, and you have to have your card or know your number to enter; staff won't look up your number for you for this contest. This is a great time to get your fines paid off, and to check and make sure we have your current contact information, because we'll need to contact you if you win - don't miss out because we have an old phone number or email address. All ages are eligible! Winners will be drawn on Tuesday, October 1. And, if you don't have a card - the sooner you get yours, the more chances you have to win.

Baby Time is a language enrichment program just for babies. Research has shown that babies are learning from the moment they are born. The five best things you can do with your child to help develop language skills are Talking, Singing, Reading, Writing, and Playing.
We will do all of these things in Baby Time! It is a relaxing and enjoyable time for you and your child full of rhymes, short books, bounces, and much more! We also include at least 15 minutes of free playtime at the end for babies to interact and caregivers to chat.
