Greetings!

Hello Summer! Summer at the library means summer reading programs, and we've got a program for everyone from babies to seniors -- and all sorts of activities for everyone! Uptown will be as busy as ever for the next few months with the weekly farmers' markets across the street in the park, monthly Uptown Markets, weekly Thursday night events throughout the summer, and shopping and eating at all of our great local shops and restaurants. Be sure to fit in a trip to the library while you are enjoying Uptown Marion!

Reading Programs for All Ages Includes Adults!  Club Read

Join us as Club Read 2013 presents The Short Story of a Teenage Vampire beginning on June 1. Registration for summer reading programs for all ages, including the program for adults, is online this year. Visit our website starting on June 1 to sign up. Club Read's summer program offers a variety of ways in which to participate and provides suggested reading lists in three specific topics this year: vampire novels, short stories, and young adult novels.

Theme for our summer reading programs for babies and children is "Dig Into Reading;" theme for our teen program is "Beneath the Surface." We have loads of great programs and activities planned throughout the summer, so get signed up for summer reading and get ready for fun and prizes!

Outloud!
Out Loud! Author Series Begins This Month

The Metro Libraries (Marion, Hiawatha, and Cedar Rapids) are excited to present one of the best Out Loud! Series author line-ups ever!

Ann Patchett - June 7

Gillian Flynn - June 14

Dennis Lehane - June 28

All events are free, and while registration is not required, we are encouraging advance sign-up to give us a better idea of venue requirements; sign up online at http://bit.ly/OutLoud. Visit the series website for details about these exciting events!

Interested in joining Friends of the Marion Library? Come to a special reception with Ann Patchett on June 7 sponsored by New Bo Book and held at CSPS (1103 3rd St SE, Cedar Rapids). The reception is free for Friends members from any of the three Metro libraries and for anyone who would like to join their library's Friends group. Ms Patchett will sign books and speak briefly at 5:30. We'll have light hors d'ouevres and a cash bar. Reception is from 4pm to 6pm.

Event Updates for Summer
Our Coffeehouse Fiction book discussion group takes a break for the summer. See you back at Wit's End in September!

Knit Wits, the library's knitting group, switches to Wednesday evenings at 6:30 for the summer; come join us for an evening of needlework and socializing.

SCORE workshops are over for the season. They start up again in the fall.

Scrabble Club continued to meet at its regular time on Thursdays at 2pm.
Albert Paley: In Search of the Sentinel

We are happy to support the Cedar Rapids Public Library's installation of an outdoor public art piece at their new downtown library. The sculpture is by artist Albert Paley; installation ceremony is scheduled for July 11. On Wednesday, June 26 at 7pm, we'll show a documentary film about Paley with a personal introduction by the Cedar Rapids Library's Public Information Officer, Amber Mussman. Please join us!
