Drought & Water Conservation for the Home Landscape
This is the annual Master Gardener program we're always glad to present, co-sponsored by Friends of the Marion Library and Friends of Marion Parks. Join Linn County Master Gardener, Becki Lynch, winner of the 2012 National Gardening Association's Environmental Stewardship Award, on Thursday evening, April 11 at 7 p.m. as she reviews the forecast for drought in eastern Iowa in 2013. Becki will share information from several universities about the priorities for watering in a drought, and will provide information on watering conservation methods designed to spread what water we have as far as possible.

Down on the Farm with the CCC Boys!
A Musical Tribute to the Civilian Conservation Corps
Bill Jamerson presents a fun, nostalgic look at the 1930s Federal Works Program that gave employment to 3.5 million men (58,000 in Iowa). Hilarious stories, foot-tapping songs, and a short video make this a must-see experience. You'll definitely want to mark your calendars to join us at the library for this extraordinary program, on Tuesday, April 2 beginning at 6:30!

Lena will share her reflections on being the daughter of Holocaust survivors. We are happy to have Lena join us on Wednesday, April 10 at 7 p.m.

They Don't Speak Italian on an Italian Freighter
Armchair Traveler Series
Depart Trieste, Italy, and travel with Marion native (and author of the popular novels The Slave Tag and Ophelia's Brooch) Bob Buckley as he sets sail on an Italian freighter delivering Japanese cars made in Hungary to exotic ports of call in Greece, Israel, Slovenia, Italy and Turkey. As the only American among five passengers, Buckley faced some culture shocks. Hear his reaction when he discovered pasta frutti di mar is really spaghetti with squid and octopus. Yikes! How Dewey Do It?
Tips & Tricks on Using the Library Catalog
We've scheduled several sessions of this program, which is geared for adults. Please come in and enjoy an hour learning the ins and outs of our library catalog: How can I find the book I want in the catalog? How do I know where to look on the shelf? How do I place a hold? Can my library account tell me if I have checked out this book before? What if the book I want is at the Cedar Rapids library -- do I have to go clear out there? We'll share our best tips and ideas. Bring any questions! Sessions are repeated on Tuesday, April 23 at 2 p.m.; Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m.; and Friday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m.
