Elk Grove Attracts Big Business with Affordability, Centralized Location
With a pro-business climate, global access, affordability and talented workforce combined with a centralized location and easy access to highways, the state capital, the San Francisco Bay Area and an international airport, Elk Grove is one of the most desirable places to locate corporate and regional headquarters in the northern California region.
Major corporations and organizations that have located to Elk Grove include Apple Inc., ALLDATA, Dignity Health (formerly Catholic Healthcare West), Sutter Health, and Kaiser Permanente.
Being just minutes away from downtown Sacramento and the availability of free and plentiful parking, are some of the advantages in locating business to Elk Grove. These incentives were among the factors in the State of California Correctional Health Care Services headquarters move that recently brought about 1,500 state employees into Elk Grove's workforce with an estimated $4 million dollars in economic benefit to the City.
With west region headquarters based in Elk Grove, Frontier Communications Corporation is the nation's largest communications company focused on rural America and one of Elk Grove's major employers. After officially closing the acquisition of Verizon assets in 14 states in 2010 (and tripling the company in size), Frontier committed to a 100% U.S.-based workforce and brought more than 500 jobs back from India. The company is listed on the S&P 500 index and has 3.41 million customers and more than 15,000 employees in 27 states. For more than 75 years, Frontier has been committed to keeping Elk Grove at the top of the technology curve by providing access to a secure, seismically stable and reliable telecommunications and data security infrastructure on par with large metropolitan cities.
Texas-based oil and gas storage and distributor NuStar Energy located its western region headquarters here citing that Elk Grove had the best access to highways and airports for frequent traveling up and down the west coast. The award-winning schools and family-friendly neighborhoods was a perfect place for employees to settle down in the area as well.
GNB Corporation--a world leader in custom engineered products, specializing in vacuum valves, vacuum chambers, vacuum hardware accessories, and custom manufactured products--uprooted its headquarters from the San Francisco Bay Area and relocated to Elk Grove because of its convenient location to existing suppliers and the affordable and modern community where the company and its employees could flourish.
Trinity Fresh--a thriving $100 million wholesale fresh produce distribution company headquartered in Elk Grove--provides service to more than 227 stores including Garden Fresh, Souplantation & Sweet Tomatoes, Outback Steakhouse, Cattlemen's Steakhouse, Sizzler, and Chuck E. Cheese. Elk Grove was a natural choice for company headquarters because of affordable real estate and a central location to the Sacramento region as well as the Central Valley where most of the state's fresh produce is grown.
Elk Grove has a superb advantage of being strategically located between Interstate 5 and Highway 99--the cornerstones for efficient transportation of goods and services out of the Sacramento region. I-5--the main interstate highway on the west coast of the United States--parallels the Pacific Ocean from Canada to Mexico, serving several of the nation's largest cities. Highway 99--a north-south state highway--stretches almost the entire length of California's Central Valley. Elk Grove is also close to Interstate 80--a major east-west route leading from the San Francisco Bay Area through Sacramento, then over the Sierra Nevada, crossing into the state of Nevada. Nearby is U.S. Route 50 that runs east-west from I-80 near Sacramento to the Nevada state line in South Lake Tahoe. In addition to these four major highways, Elk Grove is further served by an international passenger and freight airport, transcontinental rail and a cargo port-each only minutes away in the neighboring state capital of Sacramento.
Elk Grove continues to build a business-friendly reputation with aggressive economic incentives that include reduced and deferred fees, one-on-one guidance for businesses through city processes, legislation to entice state offices to the area, and free counseling for new and existing local businesses. The Elk Grove Economic Development Corporation offers assistance in helping businesses deliver a seamless transition for headquarters or regional offices locating to the area.

I grew up in Elk Grove and a lot of my employees lived in Elk Grove as well, so we moved the business here," said Megna. "I travel a lot and fly a lot and meet a lot of people who fly back and forth every week to Los Angeles or Seattle or even as far away as Texas. Locating the business to Elk Grove was local for everybody and is only five miles to my house--the location really works well for commuting!"
