Baccalaureate Mass 2014

Paul Hass and his wife, Maggie, served at Providence for many years and  both truly exemplify the ideals of people helping people. In their honor, the Paul and Maggie Hass Helping Hands Award is given  annually to a high school senior who exhibits a sincere generosity of spirit, is respected and admired by peers and adults for her giving attitude, demonstrates a consistent willingness to lend a helping hand wherever it is needed, and has a sincere commitment to service, both on campus and in the community. Congratulations to Carmel Tovar for receiving the award this year. Providence was honored to have Mr. and Mrs. Hass present at Baccalaureate Mass to present the award.

Each year the Archbishop's Medallion Award is given to a senior selected because of her service to her parish and school community and because her life reflects what it means to live as a young Christian woman. Dr. Andrea Gonzalez, Department of Catholic Schools, Archdiocese of San Antonio, presented this year's Archbishop's Medallion to Gabriella Franco at the Baccalaureate Mass. Gabriella is on the ACTS Leadership team, and involved in choir at both St. Leo's and Mission Concepcion. Her strong sense of giving is evident in her community involvement with the Pax Christi Food Bank, Presa Community Center and Mission Concepcion where she has volunteered throughout high school. She is a Class officer, member of Progressions, and worked to ensure the class of 2014 was united. Gabriella has an unselfish spirit of sharing her God given talents with the community and her strong sense of sisterhood with Providence Catholic School.

Judith Gutierrez Loredo, Ph.D. '64, Virginia Chadwell Diver '64, Bernadette Wolff Melcher '64, Pamela Lamm Dunne '64,  Sylvia Aguirre Gonzalez '64, and Rose Douglas Campos '64

represented the Alumnae Class of 1964 at Graduation as the "Golden Graduates.

Dr. Loredo commented on the event, "Thank you so much for what you did to allow us but a brief time to relive our days at PHS. I am so glad that I went and that I was able to see a few of the girls. Sitting at the graduation I could see ourselves at the Auditorium the night we graduated. It is amazing how time has flown but time has not erased the memories we had at PHS. I am looking forward to our actual reunion in October to be able to reconnect with more of the girls."

2014 Eighth Grade Graduation

Fifty-one Eighth Grade students graduated in a Mass and Commencement ceremony at the Sacred Heart Conventual Chapel at Our Lady of the Lake Convent.

Congratulations to Destiny Herndon for receiving the Moye Academic Excellence Scholarship. This scholarship, named for Blessed John Martin Moye, founder of the Sisters of Divine Providence, is given to the student with the highest cumulative grade average, who has attended Providence in 6th, 7th and 8th grades and will be attending Providence in the fall as a Freshman.

As Valedictorian, Destiny Herndon remarked in her address, "Our eighth grade year has been both exciting and challenging. We left the relative comfort of our former schools and came together to form the eighth grade class of Providence Catholic School. We have made memories as we worked, played, laughed and prayed together."
