This year's EcoJustice Committee was formed by a group of students dedicated to addressing social justice issues in reflection of the Congregation of Divine Providence's mission and core values of Providence Catholic school. The Committee sponsored a week-long H2O Project in May. Students, faculty and staff were challenged to give up bottled water and soda and drink tap water instead. The committee also collected money to support the drilling of water wells in places where clean drinking water is scare.

"The purpose of the project was two-fold," said Anastasia Christilles, Chairwoman of the Committee. "We wanted the student body to be aware of the lack of clean water in many parts of the world, specifically Africa. We collected money for Living Water International to help pay for drilling new wells so people can have clean water close to where they live." Living Water International is a faith-based nonprofit helping communities create sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene.
The $349 collected by the group will provide 60 people with water for a year," said Paul Darilek, Communications Director at Living Water. "It can literally mean life or death for them."
