Middletown Community Foundation, Middletown Convention and Visitors Bureau award grants to PAWS

The Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) Adoption Center Inc. of Middletown, Ohio, has been named recipient of a $2,000 grant from the Middletown Community Foundation (MCF). The MCF awarded the grant for the animal shelter's new "PAWS-A-PALOOZA" dog festival to be held Aug. 17, 2013, in downtown Middletown.

In addition, PAWS has been named recipient of a $1,500 grant from the Middletown Convention and Visitors Bureau (MCVB). The MCVB awarded the grant to help the animal shelter market  "PAWS-A-PALOOZA" to out-of-town visitors.

PAWS-A-PALOOZA is an "animal awareness event" designed to maximize people's enjoyment and care for their canine companions, said festival organizer Kathy Teller. Teller said the festival will not only provide demonstrations for education and entertainment purposes but also contests, raffles, food vendors, business vendors and great music.

"We are planning some wonderful demonstrations in behavior training as well as agility training," Teller said. "These demos will help dog owners learn how to correct inappropriate canine behavior as well as learn how to take the animal's talents to the next level should an owner want to teach their pet more than the basics of good canine behavior. PAWS-A-PALOOZA is an opportunity to meet and mingle with other animal lovers and see the kinds of pets that everyone keeps - and, of course, we encourage the public to bring their dogs to the event," Teller added.

The festival, which is free to the public, will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. on the corner of Manchester Avenue and Verity Parkway in downtown Middletown. For more information, please visit the PAWS-A-PALOOZA website at www.pawsapalooza.weebly.com or email   [email protected].
