If you are a true sports fan and particularly a college basketball sports fan, March is your favorite time of year. Why? March Madness! There are 339 Division I schools in the NCAA and 68 of them will begin playing in a single elimination tournament that starts March 15 and ends April 4 in Houston, Texas where the 2 survivors will play in the championship game. Every year, there are 2 or 3 "Cinderella" teams that no-one knows about or even heard of. Suddenly, these teams are beating highly ranked teams and turning the tournament upside down. It's extremely exciting. I find myself rooting for these underdogs - schools like Butler and Florida International - to beat schools like Duke and Kentucky, perennial basketball powerhouses.

If you like sports but maybe you are really not a big fan of college basketball, check out the NCAA Tournament this year. Each game is do or die, and that element brings a whole new dynamic to each game.

In the note business, we have our own March Madness going on. Activity is high. What do I mean? Many note holders are looking for cash this time of year, and they want to know if their note may be the best source of that cash. So the emails are coming and the phone is ringing. Since our business is a very niche, low profile, low pressure business, you owe it to yourself to seek options - and determine if selling your note is best for you at this time. Our business is to provide options. You won't know how good - or bad -an option it is to sell your note unless you ask.

So, if you are wondering, email or call me, and let's see if we can help solve your issue.

If the Market Crashes, I'm Happy

Interesting article posted on LinkedIn about the mindset of real estate investing. Stephan Piscano encourages investors to focus on cash flow as the key strategy - and not the specific property or even the ups and downs of the real estate market. Read his article at:

          Business Owners' Optimism Sinks

The monthly optimism index from the National Federation of Independent Business declined 1.3 points in February to 93.9.

The 42 year average index is 98 and indicates that small-business owners are wary of future economic conditions, the group said. This is the lowest index in 24 months.

William C. Dunkelberg, the group's chief economist, said "Most of the decline was accounted for by expected business conditions in the next six months and the expected real sales. These expectations are important determinants of decisions to hire, to expand operations and to order new inventory, all drivers of the economy."

Business spending and hiring held fairly steady.

               Crowdfunding and House Flipping

Crowdfunding: "The practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet."  Forbes.com.

Typically, crowdfunding targeted and was appealing to small business owners, entrepreneurs and tech start ups. Why? Because it was an opportunity to showcase a business and offer the business owner a chance at success, without dealing with onerous rules from banks or spending precious time finding and convincing private investors.

In the past few years, some firms have carved out a niche by lending money to real estate investors who want to buy, renovate and flip a property. Here in California, companies like Patch of Land and Peer Street

loaned about 100 million dollars last year to house flippers.

They have stringent requirements for their investors as to income and net worth. Interest rates are typically high for flippers.

But, these crowdfunding firms are filling a niche, and that's the key. If you are into flipping, you may want to check out the viability of using a crowdfunding firm for your next project in your area.

Question: Why do people clink their glasses before drinking a toast"?

Answer: In earlier times it used to be common for someone to try to kill an enemy by offering him a poisoned drink. To prove to a guest that a drink was safe, it became customary for a guest to pour a small amount of his drink into the glass of his host. Both men would drink it simultaneously. When a guest trusted his host, he would only touch or clink the host's glass with his own......Ever Wonder Why.

                                  Google

On March 3, 2016 Fortune released its annual survey of the 100 best companies to work for in the United States. Google topped the list for the 7th time.

Well, does Fortune know about the unwanted, recorded phone calls that I and other small business owners get repeatedly about increasing our Google standing? I get 2-3 month and feel helpless to stop them.

Maybe I would feel better if I worked for Google!
