IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM SAGUARO'S SCHOOL NURSE

Your child may have been exposed to pertussis (also known as "whooping cough"). Pertussis is a highly contagious disease caused by a bacteria which is spread through the air by coughing or contact with infected secretions from the mouth, nose or throat. Adults, adolescents and even fully immunized children can get pertussis and pass it on to babies and very young children who are more likely to develop serious illness and complications.  Please read the attached letter and be advised of the symptoms and actions to take should your child exhibit the symptoms.  Thank you!

EVIT (EAST VALLEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY)
Important Events and Deadlines

EVIT APPLICATIONS ARE DUE! THURSDAY, JANUARY 15th
Sophomores who are planning to attend EVIT during the next school year (2015-16) must complete the EVIT application and turn in to the Guidance Office Secretary, Mrs. Cindy Breen, by this Thursday, January 15th.  EVIT Advisors will be on the Saguaro campus Tuesday, January 20th for Registration and will meet with all students who have turned in their applications.  Passes will be sent to these students during the school day on the 20th to meet with the advisors.

EVIT EXPO: 
SATURDAY, JANUARY 24th, 9:00 AM-1:00 PM 
Here's a great opportunity to visit the EVIT Main Campus in Mesa for their annual Open House on Jan. 24th from 9 AM to 1 PM!  You can bring your family and friends!  The Recording Studio and the on campus restaurant, Bistro 13, will have their Grand Opening!  Campus tours and trolley rides are provided on campus and all activities are free.  You do not need to sign up to attend.  EVIT has over 40 tuition-free, career specific classes for high school students and they also offer classes for adults. EVIT BOOT CAMP:  SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7th, 8:00-11:00 AM
If you want to learn more about a specific program at EVIT, Boot Camp is a great opportunity to experience a class on Feb. 7th from 8 AM to 11 AM.  You must sign up to attend at www.evit.com/bootcamp.  This is a free activity and you can contact EVIT at (480) 461-4000 if you need more information. 

 
ANNUAL SAGUARO ORCHESTRA RUMMAGE SALE
January 17, 8:00 am-1:00 pm - outside Saguaro auditorium
Mark your calendars for the annual rummage sale benefiting Saguaro Orchestra!  As you are acquiring new gifts and cleaning out the old this season, if you have any items you would like to donate to the rummage sale, they can be dropped off in the auditorium the night before the sale (Friday, January 16) from 4:00-7:00 pm.  Clothing, furniture, books, electronics, music, toys - anything you think others would like to buy would be welcome. Thank you for your support!

BOXERS NEEDED FOR PROJECT GRAD'S BOXER BINGO
Every year, Project Grad hosts a party for all graduating seniors right after the graduation ceremony. One of the most popular activities each year is Boxer Bingo.  Boxer donations are needed (new, pleaae) - and we are looking for all sizes, all styles, goofy and fun styles welcome (yes, the Superman boxers with cape are popular!)  Beginning Friday, there will be a donation box in the Saguaro office - feel free to leave your boxer donation in the box.  THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING PROJECT GRAD!

Students will take a field trip to Saguaro High School. The event will start with an assembly which includes performances by our choir and dance departments. Students will then tour the school and participate in some fun activities.
If your student is not a Mohave 8th grader but attends a different middle school, please call 480 484-7149 to reserve your spot.
(Current Mohave Students do NOT need to call.)
 
COURSE SELECTION FOR CURRENT MOHAVE STUDENTS

During Science Class/Mohave Middle School
On January 7th, Saguaro High School Guidance Counselors met with Mohave students and reviewed the course selection process. The guidance counselors will return to Mohave on January 16th to review and enter student course selections. Students are required to have an updated grade print-out with their course selection paperwork.

ATTENTION, SENIORS: 

SCOTTSDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE OPEN HOUSE 

February 20th, 9:00 am-1:00 pm 
Seniors are invited to attend the SCC Open House on Feb. 20th.  This is a great opportunity to explore and experience what SCC has to offer!  The field trip will take place from 9 AM to 1 PM.  You must sign up in the Guidance Office with the Guidance Secretary, Mrs. Cindy Breen, by Friday, Feb. 6th.  When signing up, you will select 4 Breakout Sessions to attend that day.  You must also pick up a field trip permission slip and bring it back to the Guidance Office by Feb. 6th.  Bus transportation is required and lunch will be provided.  Space is limited so sign up early!
 
REMEMBER TO ORDER A YEARBOOK!
The price is just $65 until Winter Break - after that, it goes up to $80.  You can order in the bookstore or online.
