AIA Seattle hosted the 2013 Medical Design Forum, with keynote speaker Robin Guenther, FAIA, of Perkins + Will. The forum concluded with a site visit to Seattle Children's Hospital.

AIA Seattle presented the AIA+2030 Professional Series, which helps design professionals create buildings that meet the ambitious energy efficiency goals of the 2030 Challenge. AIA Seattle launched the AIA+2030 Series in 2009, and it is now available in more than 25 cities.
| The Ingredients for Designing a Family-Friendly Downtown forum highlighted the challenges of attracting and retaining intergenerational families in urban neighborhoods. Presentations included thoughtful examinations of Seattle's unique opportunities and challenges. | AIA Seattle teamed up with partner organizations to host a Mayoral Candidate Forum to ask, What are our city's most pressing built environment concerns, and how would you approach them as mayor? |

Emerging professionals gathered at Speed Mentoring events presented by Women in Design and the Young Architects Forum, and attended Happy Hours hosted by local design and construction firms. | During 2013, AIA Seattle hosted six exhibitions in our Design Gallery, including the Art by Architects member art show, Family-Friendly Urbanism, and Tactical Urbanism. | 2013 Emerging Professionals Travel Scholarship recipient David Dahl, Assoc. AIA, investigated conditions of urban and architectural development on water. | The 2013 Jury of Fellows from the American Institute of Architects elevated eight AIA Seattle members to its prestigious College of Fellows - the largest number of Fellows named in one year from Seattle. |

Rick Sundberg, FAIA, was the recipient of the 2013 AIA Seattle Medal of Honor, a recognition of distinguished lifetime achievement in architecture. Brian Court, AIA, was recognized with the 2013 AIA Seattle Young Architect Award. | Over 120 AIA Members gathered for our Annual Meeting & Member Party. We introduced new Board Members and celebrated AIA Seattle volunteers, sponsors, Committee Chairs, and outgoing Board Members for their contributions to our organization. | With the support of our sponsors and committee volunteers, AIA Seattle offered over 50 opportunities to earn continuing education credits in 2013, including building tours, half-day intensives, and lunchtime lectures. | AIA Seattle was awarded an Innovation Fund grant for its proposal, Getting to Zero. The Fund was established as part of AIA Repositioning to support programs that creatively address a 21st century vision of member service, collaboration, and advocacy. |

Together with Design in Public, AIA Seattle presented the third annual Seattle Design Festival, exploring the theme Design in Health. As part of the 2013 Festival, AIA Seattle hosted the Explore Design Home Tour, a tour of seven Member-designed residences. | From over 130 submittals, the 2013 Honor Awards jury selected fourteen award winners from two categories - built and conceptual. Across the spectrum of project types, the jury applauded the winners for embracing the challenges associated with their projects and representing Washington Architecture that is inspirational, intelligent, and evocative. | AIA Seattle hosted a full-day forum for architects and allied professionals about how Collaborative Project Delivery is leading to fundamental changes in professional roles, collaboration, risk/reward, and final product. Participants explored the dimensions that will set the course for the next generation of project delivery. | How does the introduction of data into design processes change professional relationships, tools, and design work? Billie Faircloth, AIA, of KieranTimberlake and Dr. Carl Hensman of the Gates Foundation, along with a diverse group of professionals, examined this question at the first-ever Data-Driven Design Forum. |
