Dear Friends,
The Spring semester is in full swing with students finishing essays and midterm exams before Spring Break. After a week off, they will return for the final push toward the end of the semester, and for some, graduation.
Such is the case with students at the 2:8 House. Several students will be finishing their OU academic career in the next few months. Graduations are always a time of celebration and a time of unknowns. We encourage you to pray for the students as they complete their degree requirements and seek God's guidance for the future.
You also may notice a subtle change in the banner of this newsletter. We have changed LOVE WINS to LOVE IS. You can find a brief article about the change listed below.
Finally, there is a more complete discussion about the 2013 budget. God provides for the 2:8 House through the generous financial support of so many people, churches and districts. As of today, we have an urgent need for an additional $5,000 to cover expenses in the coming weeks. We continue to seek God's guidance in all that we do, whether in discipleship, recovery or fund-raising efforts.
We covet your prayer. We know that God is faithful. He has directed this ministry for more than 20 years. We want to be open to whatever He wants to teach us; however He wants to lead us. As Paul reminds us in Galatians, "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control."
Thank you for your continued, prayerful partnership with us.
LOVE IS.

Board approves 2013 budget
The 2:8 House Board of Directors approved the 2013 Budget last month. The Budget projects revenue of $90,000 and total expenses of $87,838.
"This budget represents about a nine percent reduction in both projected income and expenses from the previous two years," Dave Kyncl said. "We prayerfully seek ways to reduce expenses while we seek additional revenue.
"God has always provided for the needs of the 2:8 House through the generous support of several friends of the ministry. We need to continue to expand that support base as we seek to address growing ministry opportunities on campus."
The board also approved a goal of establishing a cash-flow balance by 2015 equal to two months of expenditures. The goal will be to raise an additional $7,500 in 2013 and 2014. The board agreed to seek funds to help pay off a line-of-credit that has been used the past two years to cover payroll expenses when needed. The line-of-credit was paid in full at the end of 2011 with year-end donations. However, those donations decreased in 2012, and the balance of $15,000 carried over to 2013.

Shepperds to lead SNU students to Kosovo
By Anita Shepperd
Mission. What a controversial word today! We are confronted daily with idea straight from Jesus. You can actually get a degree on the what, why, when, how and where to do mission.
For The Shepperd family it's been a question of obedience. Simple. God asks...we ask...WHAT? Then we say yes.
This lifestyle has given us several years overseas in Croatia and Kosovo. Then the Lord led us to Norman and the 2:8 House where we are still saying yes to mission, building relationships, working with university students at OU and living in community.
Recently, through our alma mater, Southern Nazarene University, we have received an opportunity to return to Kosovo for a few weeks this summer. We will be part of a team that will be going to a village and one of the larger cities to partner with the local Nazarene Church.
We are excited about being a part of the team of students. We will be doing a variety of work from basketball and English camps to building relationships.
Craig and I are raising funds for the trip, and God has blessed us so far. Currently, we still need to raise about $1,700 to cover expenses for our family. If you would like to contribute, you can mail a check to Southern Nazarene University, Office of Spiritual Development ATTN: SIMS, 6729 NW 39th Expressway, Bethany, OK 73008. Click here to give online through the 2:8 House.
We would greatly appreciate your support. The chance to partner with SNU in mission from our mission at OU is just another opportunity to be obedient--one more time. Thanks be to God.

The mission of the 2:8 House is to serve and build relationships with the University of Oklahoma community, its students, faculty, and staff, in the following manners:

- Acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with our God;
- Supporting the ministry of the local church; and
- Making Christ-like disciples of those in the nations.

LOVE IS
By Dave Kyncl
"We loved you so much that we gave you not only God's good news but our own lives, too." 1 Thessalonians 2:8
You may notice a subtle change in the banner of this issue of the 2:8 Update.
Several years ago, when the ministry became known as the 2:8 House, based on 1 Thessalonians 2:8, we also began using the phrase LOVE WINS. This was a good fit for us as we talked with students and others on campus about the love of Christ. However, in the final analysis winning is not the most important word in the phrase. LOVE IS.
This past summer I read a book LOVE DOES by Bob Goff. I was challenged by the number of stories in the book about how average people sought out everyday ways to demonstrate God's love in today's society. While we seek ways to demonstrate our faith by what we do on a daily basis, we know that the "doing" is not the primary focus...LOVE IS.
As we continue to share God's Good News and our own lives, too, with others on the OU campus, we trust that they will drawn to God's love through us.
LOVE IS.

| Deuteronomy 32:1-2 (The Message) |
|
Listen, Heavens, I have something to tell you.
Attention, Earth, I've got a mouth full of words.
My teaching, let it fall like a gentle rain, my words arrive like morning dew,
like a sprinkling rain on new grass, like spring showers on the garden.
For it's God's Name I'm preaching--
respond to the greatness of our God! |
