Friends of Habitat Participate in Winterfest Boat Parade

Habitat for Humanity of Broward was thrilled to have a special boat entered in the "Winterfest Boat Parade."  Friends of Habitat, a dynamic group dedicated to helping the mission of "building homes, building hope in Broward," was hard at work turning the massive water-taxi into a "home" made out of thousands of the brightest lights they could find, donated by their friends at Home Depot, Lowe's, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and Collier Hardware.  In keeping with Winterfest's theme, "musical memories,"  Habitat Broward's boat theme was "With a Little Help from Our Friends." Anthology, a local band that rocks Beatles' tunes, helped the gang celebrate the importance of friends by playing that famous Beatles' hit.  A special thanks goes to Water Taxi for donating the boat and captain to Habitat for the evening.!  Close to $2,000 was raised for Habitat Broward by those who rode on the boat during the Boat Parade!

A Message from Habitat Broward

Executive Director, Perry Ecton

Dear Habitat Community,

I hope that you enjoyed a very special time with family and friends over the holiday season. We, at Habitat Broward, are thrilled that because of the hard work and generosity of our volunteers and sponsors, more than 340 families are "home for the holidays" in Habitat Broward homes. We're especially excited that just last month, we dedicated our final 15 homes in our 30-home Rock Island Oaks community-you can read more about that in this E-Newsletter.

If you would like to be a contributing part to the work of Habitat Broward, to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing to hard working families, I would invite you to click here to make a tax-deductible financial gift. I'd also like to encourage you to come out and volunteer on a home-build, or at our fantastic ReStore on Broward Blvd; to do that, you can click here to sign up to volunteer with our very enthusiastic and fun Habitat volunteers.

We also have a wide variety of opportunities for companies, churches, and other groups, to provide their organization with a team-building experience, by working on a home together. In my years of business, I have never seen a company party or leadership retreat be able to bring an organization together like building  a Habitat home can. We have a very special opportunity I like to call "anger management" where both corporate executives and their associates spend some time together doing demolition work. Picture hard-hats, goggles and sledge hammers, used not only to tear down dilapidated properties, but to also take out some pent-up frustrations! We have this opportunity available as we are tearing down six homes in Hallandale, as we help to re-build this community. If you'd like more information on this, please contact Laura Bishop, our development director, at laurab@habitatbroward.org.

Thank you for the prayers and support for Habitat Broward over the past 29 years. We look forward to continuing our partnership with hard working families and our community to have more families be able to have a home of their own in 2014.

Sincerely,

Perry Ecton

Executive Director for Habitat Broward

Over 300 people joined Habitat Broward and our sponsors,

Habitat Broward Hosting a Cocktail Reception on January 16 For Local Subcontractors

Habitat for Humanity of Broward is hosting a cocktail reception on January 16, 2012 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at the Coral Ridge Country Club (3801 Bayview Drive in Fort Lauderdale) for local subcontractors. When building Habitat homes in Broward County, we hire local subcontractors who do plumbing, HVAC, masonry block, foundations, structural engineering and electrical work.  We have many exciting projects beginning in 2013 and wish to expand the list of companies from which we solicit bids and price quotes.  This cocktail reception is a way to introduce ourselves to members of the trades and let them know about our home-building program and  projects.

Anyone representing a trade who is interested in attending is encouraged to RSVP as soon as possible, to Susan Evans at (954) 396-3030 ext. 214 or
Volunteers from Habitat Broward Build in Haiti

Volunteers from Habitat Broward traveled to Haiti as part of the Jimmy Carter Work Project. The team built 150 homes last year, and another 100 homes this year!  Habitat homeowner Delores Marshall volunteered with the group and said, "I have had it in my heart, ever since I got my own home, to give back."  Click here to see the news coverage (on the right side of the web page) from WSVN and to see first-hand how Habitat Broward is building homes, building hope, in Haiti.
