LIFE INSURERS TESTING FOR DEMENTIA
| |
| |
More and more senior citizens and those nearing retirement are buying Life insurance these days. Many of these people are worried that their spouse will run out of money if they die; while others hope to make up for losses suffered in the stock market decline.
An increasing number of Life insurers require testing the cognitive abilities of older applicants, in addition to taking a physical exam. Some companies make it standard practice to test applicants 60 years or older, while others begin testing at age 70 or 80.
Learn more about the reasons for this testing here, along with the associated study findings by the Alzheimer's Association.(Please scroll down.)
This focus on cognitive impairment among senior applicants offers one more reason for consumers to buy Life insurance when they're young, in good health, and can benefit from lower rates.
Call us today so that we can assist you with answering any of your questions pertaining to Life Insurance protection for you or your family members.

We really enjoy receiving pictures of our clients and their families, which, of course, includes the beloved family pet!
Meet 3-month old Bloo dhound puppy, "Olivia Benson," whose proud owners are Alyssa Ballestero and Rob Hopkinson. "Olive's" wrinkly face has evolved to hold scents for up to 14 days. "Her favorite human, we believe, is the mailman. She will walk, nose down, up to every mailbox or up their walk way, trying to track his scent for miles." And, if you have any pictures that you (or your business,) simply email Diane Gorman so that we can also share them with our readers!

Spring greetings!
Benjamin Franklin said, "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." He could have also added one more thing, and that is, "You don't know what you don't know!"
We are all aware of what we already know, but we can't possibly be proficient, let alone experts at everything. As our Cross team of licensed agents continually pursues professional education and certifications, you can rest assured that they will provide you with expert advice and policy reviews that keep you fully informed about all of your protection needs, including those needs that you may not know about.
With this in mind, our Cross Insurance team of professionals has recommended the following valuable articles for your consideration, here in our April newsletter. Several of these resources are time-sensitive, and also provide insight into the unique concerns that you or your business might face. We want to make sure that there aren't any gaps in your Personal, Health, Life or Business coverage. For this reason, we encourage you to take these few minutes to "invest in your own knowledge," to ensure that you are protecting the people and the assets that are most important to you. Then, give us a call today with any of your questions. Our trusted advisors look forward to helping you!

GREATER FLOOD RISKS
ARE PREDICTED FOR THIS SPRING!
The next three months are expected to be a mix of flooding, drought and warm temperatures nationwide.
If you are a homeowner, renter or business owner, please be aware that your standard insurance policies do not protect you against damage from flooding. Flooding is expected to be worse this spring compared to last year, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. With a 30-day waiting period for flood policies to take effect, a FEMA official says that now is the time for individuals and businesses to review their insurance coverage.
Flood coverage begins as low as $129 per year for
a preferred risk homeowners policy and $162 for qualified business owners.
The winter rainy months bring all kinds of wet and snowy weather, and they also bring conditions such as heavy rains, ice jams and rapid snow melt followed by the spring thaw that can increase your flood risk. Flood insurance will help you financially protect your property from these weather events.
Flooding can happen anywhere, but certain areas are especially prone to serious flooding. Learn more about your own flood risk in this helpful article: Think You Don't Need Flood Insurance? Think Again!
And, after getting flood insurance, please be aware that there are several things you can do in order to minimize the losses in your home and ensure your family's safety. Call our Cross office today to make sure that there are no coverage gaps with your Homeowners or your Business protection and flood coverage! You'll be glad you did! 603-742-2552

THE 10TH ANNUAL TODD'S TROT ROAD RACE/WALK
(Please Join Us This Saturday!)
At Cross Insurance, our goal is to help support as many local non-profit organizations as we can, as we are proud to give back to the community that supports us. Our team of coworkers has decided to participate in Casual Attire Day, where we choose a local non-profit community partner that we will assist each month. Employees interested in participating donate a dollar on Fridays, if they choose to wear jeans, and then a new recipient is chosen for the following month.
Our most recent featured community partner is the 10th Annual Todd's Trot Road Race Run/Walk, that will take place this year 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6th, at the Oyster River High School in Durham. This family oriented event garners nearly seven-hundred entries per year, drawing a broad spectrum of participants from elite runners to 'weekend warriors' and walkers of all kinds. For many children, this is their first competitive race event, and numerous kid-friendly door prizes provide for many happy returns. The road race/walk is held annually in memory of Peter "Todd" Heuchling , and is sponsored in part by Cross Insurance. Todd was a standout student-athlete and 2002 graduate of Oyster River High School, who went on to attend the United States Military Academy. Only nineteen, Todd passed away suddenly and tragically from heat stroke while competing with the West Point Marathon Team in the summer of 2003. Friends of Oyster River Track (FORT) has been organizing and coordinating this event for the past nine years. It is a 501(C)3 organization, which promotes physical fitness through running and other forms of exercise. Proceeds from the race fund a $5,000 scholarship that is awarded to a high school senior. The Peter "Todd" Heuchling Memorial Scholarship is presented each spring during graduation ceremonies at the Oyster River High School. Scholarship candidates must demonstrate characteristics of high integrity, athletic participation, strong academic standing, service to country and/or service to others. To register, donate or to learn more, please visit the Todd's Trot website.

AUTO LIABILITY INSURANCE:
HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH?
Have you ever wondered about the three numbers that are part of your Auto Liability insurance, usually written in this form: XX/YY/ZZ?
The first number refers to the maximum amount of Bodily Injury Liability (BI) for an individual injured in an auto accident; the second is BI per coverage per accident; while the third covers Property Damage Liability (PD) per vehicle. For example a policy with 250/500/100 Liability coverage would pay up to $250,000 in BI per individual, $500,000 worth of BI per vehicle, and $100,000 in PD per vehicle.

For a complimentary review of your policy, call or email Diane Boyle, or any of our other Personal Lines Account Managers today!

At Cross Insurance, we don't merely promise that we'll be there for all of your personal and commercial protection needs. Our pledge is to be consistent in every area of service, including that of building relationships with you that are based on trust, such as Chantel Maahs and Jill Purington have shared here about Vicki Turner and the Cross team:
"Our company has been with Cross Insurance (even before as Gowen & Wainwright) for many years now. Our agent, Vicki Turner, is amazing! She takes care of anything and everything that comes up in an efficient and timely manner. She is always helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We know we can count on Vicki and the staff at Cross - implicitly. They are our go-to-team for all our insurance needs, concerns, questions...everything! Thank you! ~Chantel Maahs & Jill Purington, Commercial Maintenance & Landscape, LLC
And, because yours is the only opinion that matters, we also would like to pass along and share your words with others...so they know what to expect from us too! Our goal is that you are 110% satisfied with your experience with our agency. If our client care, pricing or claim service has been satisfactory to you, we would like to share this mutual benefit with any potential or existing clients. Please take a minute to jot down some thoughts on our Testimonial Request Form on how our agency has helped you, saved you money or made your life a little better at any time. This will also improve our service to you, our valued client, in the future.

CURBING CORPORATE IDENTITY THEFT:
A THREE-STEP APPROACH

In the controversial Citizens United case, the Supreme Court ruled that corporations have rights similar to those of an individual. It follows that they have identities and are vulnerable to identity theft.
Although insurance offers one way to manage this risk, it might well be a long time before a company discovers the theft -- at which point, it would be too late. To avoid or minimize the danger of having your corporate identity stolen, we'd recommend that you review this beneficial three-step approach. (Please scroll down.)
To answer any of your questions regarding curbing identity theft for your business, please call or email Gina Veno or any of our Commercial Account Managers today. You will be glad you did!
